Please tell me that eggs hatch later in winter???

Since i started breedinglate last year i have had 25 of 27 eggs infertile or dead in shell. Three of six pairs that did not lay after five-six weeks together. My lastest attempt at breeding my eggs are up to day 21 and counting with none hatched yet! Oh dearly me! I think it must be time to reconsider my set up!

:D^_^

back to the drawing board...... :book:

Why dont you run us through your set up and all possible conditions and we can "brainstorm" and see what we can advise ? :D

okay will do...

I only have a relatively small set up. avairy about 2m wide and maybe 1.5long but in hexagon shape with safety door. I have the door to the outside covered with clear plastic to keep out the wind and rain.

I have two breeding cages hanging one ontop of the other in the safety door area. Nest boxes are standard size with the box outside the cage and the entraance facing away from me[towards the back} so the hens feel safe to go in them.

They can hear the other birds in the avairy but not see them.

They get fresh seed and water everyday and calcium supliment aswell as chopped up fresh food mixed with boiled eggs about 2 or 3 times a week.

The nests are checked once a day when there are eggs, will be twice a day should any of them ever hatch :D

any help is appreciated!

I was wondering if i would have more luck indoors? I prefer to keep them outside more natural but is it unnatural to expect them to lay in winter?

cheers

Meg

Iam not to sure, you say you have 2 breeding boxs & 6 pairs.I guess you have tryed these prs at different times,If they wer`nt in breeding condition. They wont breed.Age may be aproblem. There may be to much

feather around the vent & they did`nt actualy did`nt mate,Not being able to see the set up,that may be aproblem, perhaps there is someone in your area. That may be able to help you.Perhaps join a budgie club.

Best of luck.

Yes I have tried these pairs at different times.

I don't believe age to be a problem in these case.

But ihavent tried trimming htem yet that might besomething worth a try next.

Thanks for the ideas
