Posted June 28, 200717 yr Hi I have just baought my first budgie in 4 years and was wondering if you can give budgies cauliflower? What other vegies are best for budgies? Kris
June 28, 200717 yr Thanks I can believe how quickly you forget all this stuff its like starting from scratch (i guess I am) Thanks again
June 28, 200717 yr Yes you can. Most types of fruit and vegetable are safe but you should always search online or in a book before you feed something to your budgie. Some vegetables that are commonly fed are lettuce, carrot, broccoli, sprouts, snow peas, spinach and celery. Lettuce and celery shouldn't be fed too often as they are mostly water and can cause diarrhoea. Some safe vegetables are rock melon, banana, mandarin, orange and apple. Be sure never to feed your budgie apple seeds or avocado as these are toxic to them. June 28, 200717 yr You know what when I see it conflicting like that I usually simply don't feed it unless members on this board that I know have fed it to their birds with no issues. A lot of things that are labeled harmful are more for insectide reasons...like raspberries because their skin is so porous is recommended ONLY organic. Hope that makes sense.
September 1, 200717 yr Hi, We have found that our birds like dandelion leaves. Are there any other garden plants that budgies might like. Some of the books say they can be offered chickweed, but ours do not like chickweed. Lynn
September 1, 200717 yr If you have a garden a lot of what you grow is very healthy for them. As for weeds and such I would be careful about pesticides that are sprayed on them.

You can feed them leaves and branches from the peppermint tree, eucalyptus branches and leaves. They also like hibiscus and bottlebrush PS re vegies. Mine go bananas over sweetcorn, bok choy, pak choy, spinach and grated carrot. :ausb:

Blink and Oz must be snobs. :ausb: All mine love a freshly picked and washed leafy branch from a gum tree. They all go nuts for the leaves.
