Droppings & Breathing

Featured Replies

I got a new budgie from the petstore lastnight, he is a show budgie a pretty big one with thick feathers. His droppings look normal but they stick to the feathers around his vent. Is it just because he has thick feathers?

I have noticed that he breathes hard sometimes with his tail bobbing. Not all the time though. Only when he gets excited, could this be because he is heavy?

Unfortunately I can't take pictures because I STILL don't have a camera.

Thanks guys

I bought a bird about three weeks ago, that sounds pretty much like yours, I still don’t know what the problem is, it was wheezing at first, so I treated it for airsac mites, with Ivermectin, it’s wheezing stopped, but it still is a heavy breather. I have just kept it separate from my other birds, in case it’s contagious. Also I have kept it warm & it is slowly improving.

Airsac mites can damage the lungs & this damage could take some time to repair, I haven’t had a lot of trouble with airsac mites with Budgies, so I’m only guessing, to find out for sure maybe a vet would be a good idea, my bird is silent also & doesn’t make a sound, does yours?

sounds like he is sick

1. I would take it back

2. if you want the bird have it checked over by an avian vet

make sure you quarantine too :D

I agree with Elly. Even Show Budgies don't have droppings "Stick" to their feathers unless they are stressed or something else.

Um..he does the mating call, yeah Im not letting him go near my birds. I have some mite spray but what are air sac mites? Are they from scaley face...he dosen't have any scaley face. Actually he is quite active and alert...

I answered this question in the new post you made

They are different then scaley face mites, yes it will kill the bird unless treated by an avian vet.

Check your other post and good luck.
