How can I get my budgie Budgy2 to fly a bit more?

He is quite happy to fly out of his cage up to a hanging tealight holder above and sit there swinging till hunger calls him back to the cage and that more or less is it apart from the odd trip to hubby to play with him.

My other bird Birdy is so different and is flighty and quick and loves doing circuits of the room though not so tame.

Budgy2 is much bigger than Birdy and slower and solid!

I really would like him to exercise a bit more!

i have taught mine to flit up one step at a time. we have about 15 stairs, so its plenty of exercise i take chiisai out and let him fly to the cage across the room 5 times if i cant take him up the stairs.

Ah Boot Camp for budgies!-I've tried one of your suggestions already and walked him far away from his cage a couple of times so he flies back! Thanks,

How many steps do you get to take away from his cage before he flies back...? With some of mine, it's about 2...

Ganda is a big of a big girl too which is not good if she was to lay eggs. I carry her on my finger towards a dark room (abt 10 steps) leaving the light on near the cage.

 

As we approach the dark room she always flys back to her cage over the full length of the room. BUT for this to make much of a difference to her overall health she should do this 15 or 20 times per day minimum!

i get somewhere around 12 feet away, but i hold him so he cant see the cage like right next to my tummy and he chews on my shirt <_< and i do this about 5 or 6 times (i lose count )
