Posted June 23, 200717 yr You know us Americans, always looking for quick and convenient ways to do things! Since I have only a few birds, cutting up just enough of a variety of fruits and veggies for 1 day can be annoying, ith lots of left overs. So I tried something new and it's working great. Just shred a mix of organic fruits and veggies with a food processor (or by hand), fill an ice cube tray with the mix and stick it in the freezer. Then you can take out one (or more) cubes per day, microwave for 20 secs. to thaw, and you have a nice variety of fruits and veggies for your birds with minimal effort. My birds love this! They even jump on the dish as soon as they see it coming and nip at my fingers to get me out of the way. :feedbirds:
June 23, 200717 yr Great tip. I have heard a breed uses frozen veges from the supermarket. Just puts the frozen veges in a tray and puts it in the flights. The birds eat it as soon as it thaws. He does this in summer so it doesn't take long.
June 23, 200717 yr Yeah the first thought that popped into my head was it would be great in summer as cool treat.

June 24, 200717 yr Apparently the idea is that he takes the bag of frozen veg to the aviary "WITH" a cup of coffee. The birds gets the veg and he sits back with the Coffee and relaxes..
July 6, 200717 yr I use frozen veggies from the supermarket too. There a nice mix of carrots, peas, corn, green beans and lima beans that I typically get. But I take it a step simpler even. Since I just have 3 little guys, I take a small handful of the veggies and run them under warm water to thaw them and then I blot them dry before putting them in the dishes. It takes just a few seconds, doesn't dirty up any more dishes and they get a decent variety of good stuff. :budgiedance:
July 7, 200717 yr I feed my birds frozen peas and corn which I defrost in the microwave for a minute or two and I add finely chopped celery, crated carrot and apple. They love it some prefer the corn and carrot more than the peas. Some times I add endive and parsley for variety. But I might your method Allison and see how they go.
