Posted June 23, 200718 yr I know they are really hard to find but a person I know really that I met at budgie club wants some anthracite budgies. He has looked everywhere but cannot find them. So if there is anyone out their with them. It doesn't matter where as long as they are in Australia. I will pass on all the details to him at our next budgie club meeting.
June 23, 200718 yr I don't believe we have member who breeds them on BBC, sure would be awesome though Edited June 23, 200718 yr by Elly
June 23, 200718 yr I haven't heard of any in Australia but that doesn't mean they are not hear. Anthracite for those that don't know is a double dark factor grey.. Looks near black.
June 23, 200718 yr Thanks anyway. He had a theory about it 30 years ago and wrote an article about it. He just found out 2 weeks ago that one had been bred.
June 24, 200718 yr Anthracite for those that don't know is a double dark factor grey.. Looks near black. it can't be that easy can it?? or else they would be classed as common. OR is it that many breeders do not want a dark grey in their stud.
June 24, 200718 yr A single anthracite factor produces a darkening effect extremely similar to a single dark factor (producing cobalt). A budgie that is double-factor anthracite appears as the true anthracite with the black body color. This gene is semi-dominant. This gene is not a grey gene but an added factor on its own from what I understanding from the explanation above.
June 24, 200718 yr thanks Elly I was being lazy before not going to look up the info again to reread it.
