Posted June 18, 200717 yr HI I am new here and new to budgies! I had 2 budgies and things were going great. I bought 3 more and one of the budgies has bright green and white poo which is quite runny. Could this be just a change in diet ( as the breeder had his on a differnt diet) or is there somthing more. Any help would be appreciated. Kel
June 18, 200717 yr You didn't mention if you quarantined your new birds from your old. I won't assume yes or no but just add if you didn't you must do that now. Keep the new birds separate from the existing birds for 30 days at least to ensure no sickness will be passed on. The runny poo's can be a sign of stress from the move more then a diet change. I would observe your bird and if you see any other signs of sickness such as being fluffied up for a long period of time, not moving, difficult breathing that a warrent to the avian vet is a must. Plus separating the bird from all the rest and keeping him warm.
June 19, 200717 yr I agree with Elly, when birds get stressed out, their poops get runny. And in case it is for some other reason, that is why the newbies should be quarantined from your present pets, you don't want to pass any diseases along. :ygbudgie:
June 19, 200717 yr Author Thanks for your replies, I didnt quarintine them as nobody told me too. I kept them seperate for a hour or so ina cage in the aviary but then joined them up. June 19, 200717 yr If the diarrhea is still happening it needs to be sorted out really fast. Pay particular attention to the birds eating habits...they can appear to eat but arent really eating. Lack of food also will cause diarrhea....down to not eating. Pick up the budgie and feel for its keel bone ( chest bone ) ...if it is prominent the bird isnt eating and in trouble. If all that is happening, put the bird in a warm cage while you wait for your urgent avian vets appointment....but try not to wait too long. You will learn with time as we all did, that quarantine is ESSENTIAL when adding new birds. Your excitement must give way to common sense and you must always have a few spare cages for quarantine. Let us know how the bird is please :rip: Edited June 19, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
