Posted June 14, 200718 yr I saw on another forum where they had pictures of black budgies. They said they were really dark blue that looks black. Does anyone know if they are real and how they are produced? Edited June 16, 200718 yr by **KAZ**

June 14, 200718 yr Hi there, these are the two black types: Anthracite - http://www.budgieplace.com/c_anthracite.html Blackface - http://www.budgieplace.com/c_blackface.html Feathers.
June 16, 200718 yr Neither are a FULLY black budgie. Anthracite is a grey and the blackface have the markings in the mask and dody.

June 16, 200718 yr good one Kaz. I have heard stories of that flecking moulting back out later on. We live in hope :hap: meanwhile she is an unattractive freckly girl......

June 16, 200718 yr "double-factor anthracite appears as the true anthracite with the black body color." http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html#anthracite This one would be black except the head and the markings on the wings right?
June 16, 200718 yr Yes Marlony, there are sort of two types of Black Budgie, the anthracite & the black faced ones, neither of which I think are available in Australia. The Anthracite is a definite mutation, that must just happen or you get some stock from someone, where as the Black Face maybe can be bred via selection.
June 17, 200718 yr Kaz, I think she's fascinating. All you stereotypical types knocking her "looks" ought to be ashamed of yourselves I had a black Gouldian once. Looked like a normal juvenile, but every moult, he got more and more black feathers until he was completely black all over! Unfortunately, he never bred, and was not as hardy as the normally marked birds and had to be kept inside. Which made me wonder if it was some sort of deficiency or problem in his biological make-up. Those "black face" budgies are quite fascinating thou. Almost look like an entirely different species! Good luck with "Muddy"! Cheers, KathyW. Edited June 17, 200718 yr by KathyW
