Posted June 11, 200718 yr okay no pictures yet- Sorry!! I have a hen that is bright purple- no kidding!!. Now.... I spose until I see the babies I wont know how she is bred?? Its late and I thought I had it worked out before but Ive been thinking too much!! Also have paired her to a large grey- will the grey override the blue in the babies and will the violet have an effect on the grey? (she is cinnamon too) I have a few thoughts on what I will get but be good to hear everybodies ideas Pics later Edited June 11, 200718 yr by the pie
June 11, 200718 yr She is a violet if she looks that visually purple. It depends of she is a single factor violet or a double factor violet. Again grey can be a single or double factor gene too. Violet is an added color and so is grey When reading about the violet factor it usually darkens up the coloring so your grey bird may be a darker grey they usual. According to grey it overrides any color. It will be an interesting to see what the color of the babies are. If both are single factors then you will have 50% of violets and greys 100% chance of all babies carrying the violet gene if the violet is a double factor None of the birds will be cinnamon unless the dad is carrying the gene and gives it to his females. Any boys will be split. 100% chance of all the babies being grey if the bird is a double factor grey
June 12, 200718 yr Pie, if she is cinnamon, she would be a soft violet.Cinnamons are a soft colour. I agree with Macka. If she is in fact a cinnamon bird her purple colouring would NOT be bright and strong. Could you post a picture please Pie ? Is it possible she is a greywing ? as many people get greywing and cinnamon mixed up as some of them are hard to tell.
June 12, 200718 yr Author nah she is definately cinnamon! I do understand that it has lightened the violet which has made her a lovely shade!! The grey is a single factor. I shall keep you updated if she lays- once they feather up.
June 12, 200718 yr Author okay- on the video camera as I broke the other one a while back. Photos to 'prove' I'm not talking s@#t (I could just see everyone rolling their eyes at my desription of her) she is also opaline (forgot to add) The light doesnt change it much just makes it slightly more intense- needed to see into the nestbox. old, old picture of her I did have a picture of her rump somewhere showing the violet in natural light and it is very similar to the first pics. Next to skyblues and cobalts looks very very strange- like a dark lavender flower We have an egg also! cocks split op/cinn greys, violets,blues,- not sure what blue she was bred from so will be interesting to see in a few weeks.
June 12, 200718 yr she is pretty Merlin has this coloring right on his rump and under his tail not all over though, he is a violet too. You will have beautiful colored blues for sure, I can't wait to see them and the outcomes.
June 12, 200718 yr Yes the cinnamon has diluted the body colour. But she is a beauty I like the spangle.
June 13, 200718 yr : Pie, What a lovely SOFT colour.Cinnamon are never bright coloured : :(Laughing out loud):  You will get some nice colour from this X of blues & violets, : PS;I think cock is Mauve. Edited June 13, 200718 yr by macka
June 13, 200718 yr Author No the cock I have wth her now is a grey normal- that photo was taken about 18 months ago. The mauve spangle is now deceased (tumor) He is actually is SA bird, 02 rung- here is the only picture of him I have atm, going through a pretty rough moult about 6 months ago!! Poor thing The hen is only small but I was interested to see what colours she produced and she was also the only hen the big fella has been interested in!! Edited June 13, 200718 yr by the pie
June 13, 200718 yr Author Hey MAcka- Ive noticed alot of the SA birds at the nationals dont have a breeder prefix on their rings just SA xxxx - why is this and does it make it harder to track down the breeder? Most of the other states I noticed all do. Cheers
June 14, 200718 yr Pie,The rings with SA ++++,in the National are Kakoschke & Rice.He is one of top breeders in SA if not the biggest, could breed 1000 birds a year,If you have a bird with SA ++++ it most likely 1 of his birds. Its probley not a lot of help to you,but its a fair chance its 1 of his birds. He sends up to 200 birds to NSW each year to be auctioned off.If there is anything else, just send me a PM.
