Posted June 9, 200717 yr Today I tried something new. I let Arny my budgie out of his cage while Minnie, my cat, was prowling around. I was a bit nervous but the funniest thing happened. Arny flew by at a great rate of knots well above her head making a lot of noise with his wings. Next thing I knew Minnie was heading fast for the back door, desperate to escape! My poor Minnie, but it was so funny... :ygbudgie:
June 9, 200717 yr Arny sensed a predator, hence the noise. I would be very leery about letting these two out at the same time, best you keep the cat out of the room when Arny is having his out of cage time. :greenb:
June 9, 200717 yr Author Thanks for your advice, Phoebe You're right and if I felt nervous to start with, then my instincts must have been kicking in. I guess a cat can never be trusted so I won't try it again. :ygbudgie:
June 9, 200717 yr It only takes a second to turn into disaster. I wouldnt trust a cat anywhere near a bird. I have 3 cats and over 240 birds and they never get together. Edited June 9, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
June 9, 200717 yr Author Yes very true. My cat was so frightened, anyway, and being an elderly girl with arthritis, she can't jump, so I wasn't in fear of Arny. I was keeping a very good eye on the situation as well and she wasn't even within cooee of him and in fact, ran off.
June 9, 200717 yr Do you have any photos of your budgie ? and the cat ? Here's my cats ( photo taken of them draped across my husband ) **my husband like siamese the lilac point siamese on the left ( ORLANDO )is as blind as a bat as he is severely cross eyed ( badly bred ) The Siamese cat in the middle ( BARNSIE ) is our newest adoption...he is a delightful cat the BIRMAN on the right is my cat RUSKIE..he is adorable. June 9, 200717 yr Author Yes I do, and I'll send some on. I'm new so I'm still learning the ropes (Laughing out loud) I've read the instructions for uploading, so will try and send them soon Ohhhh how gorgeous are they and what beautiful colours! I love Siamese too and they are very intelligent. I have a tortoiseshell cat who is very loving and sweet and doesn't have the temperament that they normally have, which is a bit touchy. The poor vet nurses don't trust her though because of tortoiseshells reputations (Laughing out loud)

They like rough play and rough caresses and they follow you everywhere. They seems to be very much a "Man's cat" ..in my experience anyway. They are very smart and can be spiteful...they pay you back for not giving them enough attention etc. Birmans on the other hand are very laid back in nature. June 9, 200717 yr I have a couple experiences but let me tell you this one that just happened. Some how and I don't know how I truly don't Merlin got out of his cage. My daughter came running in panic saying Merlin was sitting on the curtian rod and the cats were out. I ran in the house and there was Merlin on the curtain rod, Mollii was on the piano inches from him, Mahria on the couch and Maxx on the ground. I thank the Lord that Merlin's flights have grown back enough (good reason not to clip) where he could fly high. The cat the first time was scared but let me tell you after they have seen them around enough they will want to get him. They may not have the kill instinct and that is probably what saved Merlin too but they can scratch and bite which is fatal. Keep kitty locked up with bird out and vs versa. Pretty in my siggy loved my cats but only from the bars. I have a picture of me holding the cat's paws down as he preens his head. He loved to try and preen them through the cage bars and always supervised because paws can go through bars too. I hate to be a downer but cats will be cats.

Cute as buttons and butter wouldn't melt in their mouths, but as soon as our backs are turned, can turn into something else. The predator instinct will never die in them, I know. As I said, my cat has arthritis and cannot jump or move very fast, but that could give me a false sense of security, so I will surely heed the warnings from you and everyone. They seem to be a *one person* cat too, although I may be wrong. I don't know much about Birmans but what a beautiful cat they are We have a friend who has not only had Siamese but named 2 the same names. The first one, Noco, died so he renamed his second one, Noco II. They were very much alike. You and others have some gorgeous budgies Thank you for all your help By The Way Edited June 12, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
