June 8, 200717 yr Sounds great marlon, but seriously I think you have way too much honey in there. In actual fact, there is NO HONEY in any of my eggfood recipes. Edited June 8, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
June 8, 200717 yr I agree with Kaz.I would drop the honey.perhaps no honey.Be interested to know how the chicks, finish off.
June 8, 200717 yr Author did I say table spoon, I meant teaspoon. okay, so is that still to much? I used all natural honey without sugar or any other additives

They are budgies, not honeyeaters. Make it without honey. Its great that you are trying to get your birds to eat better food. You know how those honey treat sticks arent good for budgies ? Its kind of like that. You are making the budgies crave for the sweetness by adding the honey. So its best without it. How about some photos ? Edited June 8, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
June 8, 200717 yr Hi Marlon, I'd agree, I got worried about it as soon as I saw the honey component. The idea of these soft foods is to give the birds an easy to digest soft food that is healthy and nutritious that supplies vital vitamins and minerals the adults birds need and for the chicks when they arrive. That recipe would make a great treat once a month or so with about 1/3 teaspoon of honey at the VERY most. It will take time, but if you offer a good soft food every day they will start to eat it, especially once they have chicks to feed too. Feathers.
June 8, 200717 yr I’m a beekeeper & have often thought I should add honey to my softfood to encourage them to eat more. I haven’t read anything that recommended honey or didn’t recommend it, so I can’t really say…but I can’t believe that amount of “good Natural honey” could be bad. Better than sugar & my softfood contains sugar in arrowroot biscuits, which is recommended by lots of bird breeders, arrowroot, as it’s gentle on the stomach.
June 8, 200717 yr Author allright, so maybe I should change the honey to arrowroot biscuits or should I just leave the sweetning?
June 9, 200717 yr I have been giving my birds soft food in the morning which is Daz's Recipe and it is really good the birds just guts it down in know time at all. I never have much left to give the birds in the flight. The Recipe is 1/4 cup hulled oats 1/4 " wheat Both soaked over night in water with aviclean ( Vetafarm) then strained and rinsed well in the morning 3 tablespoons of budgie starter (Passwell) 11/2 tablespoons of budgie crumble " Fairly level spoon not heaped for both 1 crated carrot. This recipe is enough to feed 14 breeding cages. Add 1 egg & shell vitamized twice a week. and at night I am trying the recipe from AAE Budgie posted in the food part. Called AWESOME SOFT FOOD. well i love the recipe it is easy and cheap and you can buy everything from the supermarket except for the egg and biscuit. Any way point is the birds are eating the first recipe because they are use to it but the second one they are hardly touching it but if I keep offering it to them they will take to it, you need to be patient and not t worry if they waste it or not. I do not give my birds honey at all. Edited June 9, 200717 yr by splat
