Posted June 7, 200718 yr For the last 2 months one room in my house has been serving a dual purpose, breeding room and wheelchair room. It has been working really well apart from having to keep my wheelchairs covered so they didn't end up totally covered in feathers, seed and dust. This happy arrangement finished today. My bedroom until now has housed a multi-purpose large cage and has been home to my special needs birds, who enjoyed having several sessions throughout the day calling to the breeding room birds. As I am going to change one of my large cages into 4 up breeding cages I needed more space in the breeding room and therefore my chairs had to go. The easiest solution was to move the cages in my room into the breeding room and use the extra space in the bedroom to put my wheelchairs. This is what the breeding room now contains: 3 breeding cages, show cage, holding cage and breeding room equipment Large multi-purpose cage, hospital cage and special needs birds cage The special needs kids will still spend a lot of their time with me 4 x double breeding cages, 2 stacked per shelf Currently 11 breeding cages in use with plans to create more in the next couple of weeks. June 7, 200718 yr Author Very well organised Feathers. I hope you arent going to tell me you shifted all that by yourself It wasn't too bad, my wheelchairs were on wheels and so was the big cage Nathan helped at the beginning of the week to put up the new double cage I made as we had to put it under an existing one so the nest boxes weren't too much higher. He also had to put the hospital cage up for me, but other than that it was all rollings things, easy peasy Mind you, I should have taken you up on the wire cutting the other day ... Feathers
June 7, 200718 yr Looks good Feathers…this bird “keeping/ breeding” thing is like a disease isn’t it. Soon there wont be room for you, you’ll have to move out & leave it to the birds... (Laughing out loud)…I’m always getting told ”haven’t you got enough birds”…great fun isn’t it. I just built 4 more breeding cabinets this week. He He He!!!
June 8, 200718 yr Author Looks good Feathers…this bird “keeping/ breeding” thing is like a disease isn’t it. Totally contageous, Norm. I wasn't going to get too involved in 'the breeding thing' until after I moved into a new house, hopefully sometime in the next 15 months, but that obviously isn't working. That room has now been totally over-run by birds and my outdoor aviary has been expanding too. The problem with budgies is that they are just so addictive and have the most amazing personalities. I think if my daughter had bought home a canary, we would still just have a canary. :budgiedance: Feathers.
June 8, 200718 yr How true Aly, I started back with Budgies after not having them for years, after I got rid of most of my other birds to go over seas & I’m so happy I did, they make me feel so good watching how happy they are flying in their aviary & the surprises you get from breeding, lots of pleasure & it’s nice now that I have found this site, with a lot of crazy people like myself so that we can share our fun. I read once that if your the only person that believes in something, your considered insane, but if you can get enough people to believe in the same thing, it's a religion & if you get even more people on board, it's a community or society...(Laughing out loud).
June 8, 200718 yr Author Very true, Norm, I have always said that this is a community of like minded people who all gather to share their interest, experiences and knowledge of all things budgerigar. I love the crazy people too Feathers.
June 14, 200718 yr Author A new show pair have started laying, Kazbee & Beaker I am so happy as Kazbee is a very special birdie in my aviary, named after Kaz who bought him for me Feathers.

June 14, 200718 yr Author Ahh, true love, he couldn't have picked a nicer chick! So good. Here comes come really lovely skyblue clearwings. Feathers.
June 21, 200718 yr Author Kazbee and Beaker look like they are after quality, not quantity. They have 3 eggs and I don't think Beaker will lay any more. Buffy and Snorky decided the same thing.. they also have 3 eggs and could begin to hatch any day now. Feathers.

Feathers, Iwould check the egg on the left in the 1st nest, itlooks to have a indentation in the egg. I read in one of your other threads, you had dead in shell,it might be the moisture. You could just give the hens belly feathers awipe with a damp cloth 2or3 days before they start to hatch. As your birds are inside & I guess you have the heater going it might be takeing the moisture out of the air.
June 21, 200718 yr You could get one of those plastic sprayers & with luke warm water give the nest a puff now & then & if you had some material in the boxes like I said in the other post that would retain moisture better. I can see the dent in that egg also. maybe a dab of nail polish on the break would work, but wait till it's dry before putting back, just a small dab & it dries quick so don't think the chemical would do any harm. June 23, 200718 yr Author your hen is a spangle too isn't she?.. I'm not sure which hen you are referring too, Lady Feathers, Iwould check the egg on the left in the 1st nest, itlooks to have a indentation in the egg Thanks Macka. The hen chucked it out of the nest before I got a chance to look at it Feathers.
June 23, 200718 yr I use boiling water to spray the show birds. It mists to warm before hitting the birds. So it's not a shock. You can try that on your hand first 30 to 45 cm is the distance.
June 23, 200718 yr your hen is a spangle too isn't she?.. I'm not sure which hen you are referring too, Lady Feathers. She means Beaker and I would say she is spangle too.
June 24, 200718 yr Author Thank you, Nerwen. I probably would have realised had I looked at the previous page, but I have been so busy in the last week, even before everything that happened with Lori, that I have only been vaguely here in the last few days. I am still try to come back down to earth with my pain levels and cacth up on some rest. Yes, beaker is a spangle clearwing. She is now only sitting on 2 eggs after she threw the egg with a hole. Any hatchlings from this pair are guaranteed to be gorgeous. I need a new globe in my flexi torch at the moment, so I have been unable to candle any eggs for a while. It's a case of wait and see until I find the right globe somewhere. Feathers.
June 24, 200718 yr Contact Irene. She mentioned globes for your flexi torch at the meeting the other night.
