Posted December 25, 200420 yr hello, today i found a shop which selling many kind of birds. actually i wanted to buy a new budgei and so lucky because the shop owner have three baby budgerigars which are around 4 weeks old. he said the budgerigars cannot feed themselves so he feeding them. i just wanted to buy one budgerigar and i choose one from those baby budgerigars. the price of the baby budgerigar is double the price of an adult budgerigar. since my family and i won't be around for another two weeks, i just paid some deposit for the baby budgei and i asked the breeder to take care of it for two weeks. so, by the time i bring the baby budgei to my home, it will be 6 weeks old. my question are - am i still have to feed the baby budgei when it is 6 weeks old? - when it will be able to feed itself? - what type of food should i give it? thank you.
December 25, 200420 yr Hi Anand Mike! Congrats on getting your new bird! So young too! S/he will certainly bond with you very well if you play and give lots of attention every day By 6 weeks old most budgies will be feeding themselves. If not you will need to ask advice from the seller. Also, to begin with you should use the same type of foods that the seller was using. Sometimes birds are a little slow a taking up new food types. Of course you will want to feed him/her other things too but these should be along with the food s/he is already familiure with. You can give many different things... my wife and I use Broccoli, Carrot, Lettuice, Millet and Bird Egg Mix (from pet shop), and their normal bird seed. I hope that is some help to you. Im not a bird pro or anything but have read a few books etc... Which I recommend you do too. The small books generally available from pet shops are usually great for buying new birds. Congrats again, Chris
December 31, 200420 yr hi, thank you for your kind information. i have another one week to collect my new baby budgerigar from that shop. Anyway, i have other questions also. By now i am keeping only one budgerigar. It is queit tame. He learned to step up on my finger and i also could make stand on my shoulder. He only standing on my firnger and shoulder for a while and after that trying to fly away from me. But, i believe that our bonding becomes stronger and stronger. he started to eat anything from my finger. But, i would like to know whether is this normal for the beginning taming process. I still not sure about the sex of my budgerigar. Can anyone please help me in this? here is the pysical appearance of my budgei. - he is a blue colur budgei - there are alot of black colour lines in his head - it is bluish colour around hit cere but the colour of the center of the cere is white. if can, can anyone tell me the age of this budgei from the information above. I have another question. i had told yuo about the baby budgei. Can i keep the baby budgei with this budgei in the same cage? If can, will the baby budgei start to learn to eat and drink from my old budgei? I hope i can get the answers from you. Thank you
December 31, 200420 yr Hi again Anand Mike! It sounds like you are getting on really well with your current budgie and its great to hear The taming sounds good to me and all very normal... especially good if s/he is eating from your hands. What are you using as feed from your hands? Remember no chocolate! That is fatal to our feathered friends. Regarding the sex of your budgie, we cannot tell you that information without knowing its age. From the head markings you mention it sounds that it may be quite young. This will make sexing the bird even harder BUT if you can post a picture the experienced users of this forum may be able to tell you the answer. In very young birds the only way to know their sex is by their behavior. The boys and girls act differently to each other. With older birds, the general rule is that the male will have a blue cere but this is not 100% accurate. Post a picture and let us see I have put an older and younger budgie together and there were no problems. However I would keep a very close eye on them both for the first few weeks just to make sure no fighting occurs. If they do fight and if it is serious you will need to split them up. I hope that answers some of your questions. Chris
December 31, 200420 yr Everything really was coverd by nlpmaster1974 in my opinion but i have 1 other tip. If you want your second budgie to bond with you as your 1st one does and give him proper training then it is best to split them up into two cages and keep them in seperate rooms, we didn't do this with our budgies so it took us 2x longer to tame ben and he still does sit on there very long because when he spots jack his budgie friend he will go strait to him and play with him *EDIT* don't give up on them if they do fight when put together, that's what happend with jack and ben so they were kept in their cages in the same room and sometimes we put the cages next to eachother and then after that we let ben in jacks cage for 10 mins each day and then jack got used to him, it's just like finger taming them, so it's best not to let them both out together even if the 2nd one is tame untill they have accepted each other and they don't fight Edited December 31, 200420 yr by jack&ben
January 11, 200520 yr Hi. Finally i have brought the new baby budgerigar to my house and he is 4 weeks and few days old. he is still don't know to feed himself. The breeder told me that he usually feed my baby budgerigar with a mixture of nestum and powder milk. He also advise me to continue givng my budgei the same food. Should i feed my baby budgei with the same food? Is the food healthy? can i feed my baby budgei with blended fruits and vegetables? Can anyone tell me what kind of other food should i feed my budgei? the breeder also advise me to feed my baby budgei three times per day. Should i follow his advise? please help me. thank you.
