I have been researching breeding budgies for a while. I definately don't want to rush into anything. However, I have a couple that can't get enough of each other. What would the possibility be if I bred Tiki and Caeser? (I do not know the history of them)

I can't help you with percentages of mutations but I'm sure you would get some cute little budgies from this pair .They are both beautiful.

I think you meant Ceaser is a YF 2 (not 1) because the yellow is throughout her body from her face.

You will have 50% dominant pieds 50% normals

25% chance of having a white face that is actually a double factor yellow face

75% single factor yellows

100% blues

 

of course there are any recessive genes they both carry and any sex-linked genes that the dad can pass on to his hens if he is split for any.

Dominant Pied & Clear flight are both dominant, so sorry Marlony you can’t have splits for Clearflight.

Both of your birds are YF2 so probably you will get mostly YF2 young, YF being Dominant to Blue factor, but if they are single factor you will have the chance of some white faced blues also. Like Elly says you will get 50% Dominant/Clearflight & 50% normals…all hens produced will be Opalines.

And as Elly said any Recessive they are split for & sex linked colours the cock may carry.

oh, sorry. I thought clearflight pied was recessive. that changes everything.

You will get pretty babies! And it will be an easy nest to sex, all the hens will be opaline!

hi there gorgeous hen you have there. Do you know if she has clearflight in her lines as I think its just Dom pied- no clearflight as she has other markings (belly patch). Clearflights as far as I know only have

'clear flights' no other patches anywhere hence the name.!

Do you have an older picture of the male? Has the yellow bled onto his chest since he moulted?

Conflicting info on breeding or what types of babies you will get?

Well, plans have just changed. Raven was in a separate cage because she was ina bit of a scuffle today, and while my mom and I were checking on her she laid an egg. I am shaking right now, happy, excited, and really nervous. I am pretty sure that if it is fertile that it will be a normal blue. Here are the parents:

Now, I do ahve a question. Her cere has never changed, is this a problem?

The fact that her cere hasn’t changed, maybe unusual, as usually it will eventually change to the brown stage, first a light tan then darker & darker brown. How old is she? A lot is written on here about having Budgies in breeding condition [dark brown cere] but plenty breed without ever going dark brown & I have had lots that are dark brown, but as soon as they start to breed it fades to a pale whitish blue & stays that way & they will have a number of batches with no problems. Also I have had plenty that were a very dark brown & never laid an egg. I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you.

Thanks for the information. As for her age I'm guessing that she is somewhere around a year and a half. I brought her home in April of 2006.
