Budgie Beak Looks Funny

Featured Replies

My female's beak appears to be off centre.... what I mean is the lower part of her beak is sitting to one side and not tucked underneath the top part of the beak as it previously was. It kind of looks dislocated. My husband noticed it on Thursday and thought that one of her babies was feeding her. There was/is no blood she appears happy, flying interacting with the other 3 birds in the cage . The other 3 birds are males. One is her hubby/partner and the other two are her babies (now 1 & 2). She is about 3.5 years old.

What do I do about this? Is it okay to leave it?

All advice would be greatly received.

Could you post a photo. It could be scaly face, but we would need to see it to help you out.

Cheers karen

PS Welcome to our forum :D

That is not the normal placement of the beak and so can't be left like that. As Kaz said scaly face mites can cause the beak to grow long and out of shape.

If you have an avian vet I would make an appointment. The beak may need to be trimmed into the correct placement again.

Thanks for your replies. I will endeavour to get a photo and post it with my question. I don't know about scaly face but it has only happened in the last few days. It just looks dislocated. I will try and get the photo asap, my birds are not handled by people so it is a little hard to get them to co-operate and I don't want to stress them.

stay tuned...

:D Just take your time in taking the picture so nobody gets stressed out and it might give the experts a better idea as to the problem (but we cannot diagnose here) but it doesn't sound right at all and sounds like avian vet care is required, good luck to you and your budgie! :ygbudgie:
