Posted June 1, 200717 yr Here are 3 new birds Greg bought at the weekend, he went on his own to a Champion breeder who has some of the top birds in the state. When Greg came back I expected to see 2 birds a pair but he got me an extra cobalt hen not real big but her breeding is exceptional and should get some top birds from her. The cock bird is a grey green spangle as we are focusing on spangles. Well this boy is a wow factor he is big and wow, he has exceptional breeding too. The third bird again is a grey green spangle hen and she is lovely too good breeding etc, I was so happy with the birds I couldn't sleep all night thinking of the possibilities that could come from these birds. The 2 green birds are split for blue so that's one thing. I am a bit worried about ending up with all green birds but Greg said as long as they are quality it doesn't matter. I guess he is right because I am now really focused on breeding to show. Cobalt Hen Grey Green Spangle cock Grey Green Spangle Hen :budgiedance:
June 1, 200717 yr not wrong about the wow factor the colbalt is stunning and i must say the white patches on the green ... different : )
June 1, 200717 yr Hi Julie, The cock is an absolute beauty... are you sure he wouldn't prefer a home in sunny Perth? Both hens are nice too. I think the cobalt hen has some great qualities that outweigh her slightly smaller size. Feathers.

Yes Feathers tthat is what the breeder said, so I am realy excited now that I have some realy good quality birds to breed with mine. Actually most of my birds are from the one breeder.
June 1, 200717 yr Now if that isn't a Samson I don't know what is He is really WOW. Have you ideas on what to pair him to later? Spangle to Spangle seem to be the favourite match these days to get better markings.

Yes I am putting him with a normal because I have done reserch and spangle to normal is how you get better markings and spangle to normal out of a spangle is even better. When you put spangle to spangle you start to loose the markings but you will get double factor but if you do spangle to spangle the next generatio you should put the spangle back to normal to improve. I hope that sounds right. Great birds I really like this one Yes Kas he is totaly WOW gorgous, when Greg bought him home and I saw him for the first time my mouth dropped open and my tougue nearly hit the floor I was so amazed.
June 1, 200717 yr The grey green cock is the best of the three. Pair him to the Spangle Hen. Yes you will get Double Factors but not that many. The next pairing will be The grey green cock to the skyblue. She is a big hen but not good in the head area. He could improve that. Edited June 1, 200717 yr by Daz
June 1, 200717 yr You have some good breeding stock there,Pair them the right way & with a bitter luck, should breed a show bird or 2.The leg ring not RW14 or KP1 by any chance,
June 1, 200717 yr I have seen results of spangle to spangle with better markings, but there are breeders out there that like spangle to normal. In the end it's your choice. Macka what is your thoughts? Spangle to what? Edited June 2, 200717 yr by Nerwen
June 1, 200717 yr Yes I agree Splat…Nice birds, I’m sure all will be useful in your breeding program. Re the Spangle thing…I have just put down my first pair of Spangle to Spangle to see the results, the hen has British blood & nice big bird, the cock is a smaller bird, but I believe has good wing marking, better than his father anyway. They have only been together three days, the hen went in the nest within hours & both were there yesterday, so I wont have long to wait.

Hi Daz last night Greg and I had a good chat and we are going to put the spangle cock with the spangle hen and then with the cobalt hen. The cobalt which in the photo looks sky blue but her colour is really a cobalt violet colour but Ian the breeder said she was cobalt. Thanks I really appreciate your advice. The result should be good as I have a couple pair down at the moment and they are spangle to spangle, the markings are good on some of them but some are washed out so next pairing will be spangle to normal. Good luck.
