Well another newbie to the world of budgie keeping. Currently have 4 budgies pretty sure they are 2male and two female unfortunately no pictures to share as yet. Just wanted to introduce myself before I start picking your brains.

Welcome to the boards Tal. Feel free to ask anything and Have a look in the FAQ area or great information.

Hi Tal, welcome to the BBC forum, and feel quite welcome to fire any question at us that you like. There is always somebody here who will have the answer that you need.

Welcome look forward to seeing your flock

What type of set up do you have?

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

My setup is pretty basic compared to those I have seen posted here. At the moment I just have a flight cage and a round dome type cage. I'm not real happy with the setup as the birds aren't tame so I can't really let them out. I got the 3 birds in the flight cage from a Free to good home ad which funnily enough cost me $20. Still happy to get them away from the owner. They were left out side all day with a piece of newspaper on top of the cage to protect them from the weather and brought in at night. Not the worst conditions I have seen animals in but not the best. I think I have had them for maybe 3 weeks. The single female I got a couple of days ago from a pet store along with the round dome cage. I was going to keep them in pairs in two cages but will probably get a larger cage and keep them all together. Hopefully I can get the camera working in the next few days and post some pictures. I can't even tell you what types of budgies I have as I just don't know. Still too new to all this. I never knew there were so many varities

I read your other post , make sure when you purchase a new cage it is long as budgies need long to fly. I added to the other post member set-ups which I think you already reviewed. Round cages are the worst for budgies - get rid of it.

1. they like to sit in corners for security there is nothing like that in a round cage 2. they need to fly back and forth and not up and down to excerise. Since your birds are not tamed they will need a nice flight cage to get their exercise. I would suggest getting a cage that can house at least 6 therefore you know it is nice and big to house your 4 and they have good flight time within the cage.

When you get pics up we can help you with the varieties of your budgies and such.

Oh and don't forget to quarantine, if you didn't start it now :D that is #1 when bring home new budgies. I left a link for that on your other post too.

Again, welcome.

Well I got some pictures sorted out this afternoon of 3 of my birds. The fourth is still a little camera shy. Not the best quality pictures unfortunately

This is Phil and these are Manny (on left) and Lou-Lou

Phil and Lou-Lou have bonded leaving poor old Manny to fend for himself. My other female is a greyish blue with a white face. Bit of a weak description but when she is a bit more comfortable with a camera I will try for a picture.

They are lovely birds, 2 recessive pieds and 1 dominant pied bird there. The greyish blue is probably a mauve bird, but we would need a picture to confirm that.

Pet shops really make me angry. So many sell birds with totally inappropriate cages and then after paying out good money for them you are stuck with a dud. Not good. It will be fine to use while your new bird is in quarantine though.

Well after a little bit of chaos my other budgie finally sat still long enough for me to get a picture of her. This is Sooty

Hehe This is what you get when you let your 4 yr old choose names.

I thought so too :) Any suggestions as to Sooty's mutation ? Trying to learn as much info on the birds that I have that I can.

From the picture and not seeing the back of the bird I would say a normal gray

Your birds are adorable.; Sooty is especially nice and I think SOOTY is a great name :)

:( Hi there and welcome to the forum, enjoy yourself, learn a lot, beautiful budgies and GREAT NAMES!!!

:)
