May 31, 200718 yr Welcome to our forums The first bird look like a sky blue recessive pied and looks male, his cere will stay that pretty pink color :ausb:. But I do reserve to change to double factor pied because he hardly has any wings marking but he looks recessive right now. Your other looks like a normal green and is a male. How to Sex my Budgie BBC FAQ's Click here to read more about telling the difference Edited May 31, 200718 yr by Elly
May 31, 200718 yr Ya the Blue cere on the green budgie is a dead give away for the sex, I wish it was that easy for the resessive pied haha. but im curious to know what features lead you to beleive its a male? im just asking this because i have read lots about the sex of ressesive budgies and this bird has some of the qualities that both the males and females have. its white rings around the nostriles, bullying behaviour and hard bitting leads me to beleive is female, but its constant singing and talking and the fact it hasnt ever layed eggs, and when around other birds it seems like it tries... for lack of a better word "mounting" the other birds... atleast this is what it seems haha.. makes me beleive its a male... Thanks for your input and help, its much appreciated.
May 31, 200718 yr Well first I had a recessive pied, he is in my siggy Pretty and he is a male . Here is a picture of his cere Pretty Cere and it looks just like your birds. Boy's can have nasal rings, Pretty did but they are usually smaller then females. Boy recessives have very pink and smooth ceres while a females is usually whitish pink or whitish tan with larger nasal rings like the one in the post above too there is a female. When I first got Pretty I didnt have a clue but since I have been part of this forum and have gotten used to sexing budgies and seeing a lot of ceres it gets easier . There are of course the gender changes (Laughing out loud) that you think they are this and then bam they turn into the other sex but not often. Hope that helps. as with biting, bullying sure it can indicate a female but not always fool proof just like the singing and bobbing females do that too
May 31, 200718 yr Well im going with male, until further notice haha .. Thanks for the help!! Edited May 31, 200718 yr by minx
May 31, 200718 yr Hi, welcome to the BBC forum. When I looked at the first picture of your recessive pied, I thought male, then I saw the second and thought female. The fact is that some young recessive pieds are very hard to tell and it is not until they are older that you are sure. I have one in my aviary that I was unsure of until 12 months down the track. I would say that it is male, especially if it is older than 12 months, as the cere is a very dark pink. Feathers.
May 31, 200718 yr If it is young, say 1or2 months old it may be female. But it is lacking feather, markings.
May 31, 200718 yr I have had Gilly for a couple years so everyone has got to be right and he must be a male. I have always called Gilly a boy so i am glad that it has actually turned out that way! Thank you all so very much! I wish i would have found you all sooner!
