Posted May 30, 200718 yr as most of you all know I am haveing a bad run with my breeding (1st time ) but a reply got the better of me re: re sitting on eggs, I don't know how that works, not that i am doubting that it does I have lookied high and low on more info on this. I just don't see how it will work, as i understand that the eggs need to stay warm incubate - but if they are warm . cold. warm cold . how will a chick develope???? it is so very confusing - Please anyone with info on this please let me know I am wrecking my brains out here. we all know that i am a extremly impaitent person ( don't even use spell check (Laughing out loud) ) so thank you all for listening to me winge and complain - But that is what we are all here for eh?
May 30, 200718 yr Like I said & also Kaz, an egg can be chilled to a certain extent & still remain viable, but the incubation period may be extended by a certain time depending on how many times it’s chilled. But if it is chilled beyond a certain extent, it will die. I know you are just starting out with breeding Budgies & are excited to have some results, you will always have some problems, but in the end, if you persist you will have lots of success…keep things in proportion…I know us humans can get worked up, try to remain calm & persist & you will succeed, next batch or the one after, maybe even this one [even if only one chic] after all its only a small budgie egg.

NORM, thanks mate...... That is just what i needed both to hear and be told....... I understand now and i will be paitent :ausb: thanks again... Promise no more question RE; this toic for at least 3 weeks heheh
May 31, 200718 yr I wondered what you meant by new post in the other thread. My answer there: Egg can lay dormant for a while if incubation hasn't started. I got an egg from Daz which I believe he had tucked away safely for about a week, that had never started incubation, and once under my hen developed normally. Egg can also continue growing with a short pause after incubation has started.(such as a day or maybe two) Promise no more question RE; this toic for at least 3 weeks heheh It is very exciting time for you and the questions are understandable.
May 31, 200718 yr No problem Neat & you can always ask more questions. I’m sure there are enough problems in all our lives, I just want to say, don’t let keeping Budgies get you down too much, we keep them because we like [love] them & enjoy them. Try to enjoy the ups & downs, hopefully in time there will be more ups than downs. I hope you soon have some “small pink jelly beans” squirming in your nest boxes …(Laughing out loud). June 5, 200718 yr Nice to see someone else just starting out... We've only just hatched our very first batch of eggs. Such a thrilling experience... I'd dash down every day and take a quick peek and one morning voila!!!! A wriggly pink ray of sunshine! It makes it all worth it. Keep on going, trust me, the highs definately outweigh the lows!
June 7, 200718 yr Well the last egg was kicked out?Ahh well.... Back to the ól drawing board Hi Neat I have had eggs ice cold and they still hatched took a bit longer than normal but it was still good. If the hen keeps kicking them out just keep putting them back unless they're broken or chipped. Have you got another hen that can sit on those eggs. Or what I do when I get a hen like that, If she kicks or destroys all her eggs, I close the nest box off for a few days to make sure she mates and not just sits in the nest box all day, then I open it again to let her have access to it and if she keeps kicking them out or destroying them, I will put the eggs under a foster mum. But the last year I had this Albino that I really wanted young out of, well she laid 5 eggs and just before they were due to hatch she destroyed the whole nest, the eggs were fertile too. i don't know why she did. I put her back in the flight for a month or so and then let her lay again but put the eggs under foster parents and got 5 little babies. Anyway after that she went down again and layed 6 eggs and raised them by herself, so the moral to my story is that I think she was ready to go down the fisrt time. Sopmaybe your hen is not ready yet and that is why she is chucking her eggs out. Room for thought.
