Posted May 30, 200718 yr Help, Is it important to go to the vet. I bet it is, but my mom said that she never did an they were okay. She said that if I took good enough care of my budgie we did not have to. If my budgie becomes sick I know I will have to go. Budgielover
May 30, 200718 yr You know, Budgielover, I have done a couple of public events with booths over the last few months for my small animal rescue group. What people don't realize (and pet stores should point out) is that regular vet care is required for ANY bird or animal, especially if a problem occurs and potential owners should familiarize themselves with vets that they can access in their immediate area. Being a GOOD pet owner is NOT enough, they get sick, JUST like us and need attention! Having said that, I have had birds for years that NEVER required medical help but some that have needed repeated visits to the vet, it's life! When one acquires a pet, whatever species, THEY are accountable for their pet's health.
May 30, 200718 yr Budgielover, if I was YOU I would start saving up for a vet fund. If your parents dont feel a vet is necessary and your bird gets sick....any delay in getting a bird to a vet may cost it its life. By the time a bird shows that its sick, often it is nearly too late to do anything to save it. If you find you are in a position of having to convince your parents to take you and your bird to the vet, and the convincing takes up a few days, you may well lose your bird waiting. So, if you have saved some money and put it aside for possible vet visit, then you should be able to get your parents to agree to take you and your bird to the vet when that moment arrives.
May 30, 200718 yr In all reality everyone views pets different and some people don't even take their dogs or cats to get vaccinated (even if it is the law) we can preach and tell you all the reason WHYS but you yourself need to feel the need or the importance that this is a living creature that is depending on you to help it. Changing your mom's mind isn't the answer but the answer is exactly what Kaz said save up. Make it important to you. My aunt recently had to put her dog to sleep and she couldn't make the decision her boyfriend said to her when has he (the dog ever let you down) was he always there for you? Of course you know the answer to that and the same is with your pet budgie. It is all how you view it so if you feel the importance then as Kaz said start saving but you never know when your bird or any pet that you may acquire will need care . (hope you didn't take it wrong just my thoughts on your question EXCELLENT BBC ARTICLE on WHY everyone needs to know who their avian vet is. Edited May 30, 200718 yr by Elly
May 30, 200718 yr Author Thanks every one it helps. I will start saving now. I was already saving up for my budgie, a cage, toys, seed, ect. The left over money I will keep if we ever need to go to an avian vet for my birds health issue. Budgielover

I have 2 dogs 9 birds 3 horses and they all get wormed and checked. sometimes in life we all don't agree on things but when it comes to a life that is in your hands you would want the best for it???....I know I do
