May 29, 200717 yr Not your fault, Mate. Some hens just don't "get it" I have useless hens first time breeding that become brilliant with time and experience. Don't beat yourself up over it. Breeding really isnt that "easy" and there are many trials and tribulations along the path to fledging chicks. {{{{BIG HUGS}}} :angel1: Edited May 29, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
May 29, 200717 yr One thing to add is this a 1st time clutch for both the hen and cock. I know you have having hen trouble but I have always heard to pair and older hen that has had a clutch with a younger cock. Not that you could do that this time around but food for thought. This is why people will buy birds that have been proven breeders & good parents when they setting up breeding stock. As Kaz said a lot of people believe it is very simple because budgies can breed easily but breeding easily doesn't always mean they will be good parents. Listen to Kaz though she knows what she is talking :hap:
May 30, 200717 yr Yes not your fault at all Neat. Leave it all for another day she may start sitting again. If not she might even start her cycle again and restart cleaning the nest for the second round.

May 30, 200717 yr Goodness Neat, you're on an emotional rollercoaster with this breeding stuff :hap: Maybe the birds are picking up on your nervousness. I hope it is all smooth sailing from here-on in. Feathers.
May 30, 200717 yr Author Yeah probably.... I honestly don't believe that this one will hatch looked thru it and there are veins and a little thing in there but i thought that the hen has to stay on the egg apart from stretching and pooing??? so i am not too sure how this re sitting thing goes, but i am the most impaitent person every *Bets KC i am worse then here (Laughing out loud)* This breeding thing feathers REALLY!!!!! someone give me a break lmao... everything is by the book , sorta the only think i can put it down too is the dryer in the laundry maybe that is incubating the egg, highlt doubt full, but i have not given up, just given up on the idea that this little egg isn't goona hatch , BUt there will be others ( THERE WANNA BE ) i want to see this through to the end, I also give up when the going gets tuff, time to roll the sleeves up and fight...heheh okay going a bit far.......
May 30, 200717 yr Neat just wait, you still might be lucky, I had a Cockatiel & I noticed the eggs were cold & she wasn’t sitting, I wondered if I should throw them out, but I didn’t & later she started siting again & eventually they hatched. Eggs especially later in the incubation can be really hardy. With chooks I have had hens that didn’t cover all their eggs & some got chilled, but still hatched something like up to one week later than when they were supposed to. Whether it’s good for them is another thing, but certainly some do still hatch.

I will wait but there is an off center air bubble in the only egg leftFERTILE EGGS Just like the last on there are no veins on it but lines.....
May 30, 200717 yr I've had an egg with a large bubble just like that a few days before hatching and a bub still appeared. Those pictures are just a guide, the fact that you egg has veins means it's different from what they are talking about on that site. Re-sitting the eggs lay dormant for that short period and so I would add another day or two to the expected hatching date.

May 31, 200717 yr Hi Neat, an egg that was never fertile won't have any veins. Since I set up my breeding room with pairs I check on them all only twice a day. In the morning I go through all the nests, check if there has been any eggs laid or chicks hatched and that any chicks have full crops. In the evening I take out any soft food left, refill their seed bowls and water, check if any eggs have been laid, or chicks hatched and once again check that any hatched chicks have a full crop before lights out. I have two hens who automatically leave their nests when I come in, probably because they know I will get them to leave anyway so I can check everything. Maybe that is what your is are doing. Leaving the nest when you come in. Just a thought. Feathers.

I got an egg from Daz which I believe he had tucked away safely for about a week, that had never started incubation, and once under my hen developed normally. Egg can also continue growing with a short pause after incubation has started.(such as a day or maybe two)
May 31, 200717 yr Another thing Neat…I have always found that starting out, is the most difficult time, when you buy birds, from others [pet shops, breeders] you are getting birds that someone didn’t want to keep, so you can often get problem birds. I found once that you at last breed some birds of your own, they often do better & you have fewer problems. Also birds that you breed yourself, have lived their life only with you & are used to & know nothing else than living in your unique situation. So often things are hard at first, but once you get over that first hurdle things should get better, good luck.
