Posted May 29, 200718 yr Newton has laid her 3rd egg. But I noticed that one of the eggs seems soiled. Probably smudges of poop. It's not that bad, but I was wondering, should I clean it? And if yes, how? I'm so nervous to even touch the eggs. They're just so tiny and I don't want them to break. Any tips are appreciated!
May 29, 200718 yr Personally I wouldn't touch them this is what I found in our FAQ section along with a couple other article linked in the article Should I clean the Eggs BBC FAQ Section
May 29, 200718 yr so why do the light method to check if eggs are fertile, the warm water one is much easier?? Or is there any way it can harm the inside?
May 29, 200718 yr I would say the light one is safer then the warm water because of accidently breakage and touching the eggs.
May 29, 200718 yr If you can`t work the torch.I would just let nature take its coarse & they will be fertile or clear,I guess the candling of eggs is only for the show breeders, that are trying to breed from special birds & don`t want tobe wasting 18 to 20 days,When you can change over the cock bird after 10 days & try again,
May 29, 200718 yr I don't know ANYONE who checks fertility of eggs by floating them in water I know its a way to check if a chicken egg is fresh or not. But budgies ??
May 29, 200718 yr Hi Steph, I have cleaned one of my eggs, but that was because it was heavily soiled by a damaged, broken egg. I washed it by using a little warm water and a very light rub. It has hatched a very big healthy chick. I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't too badly soiled. Feathers.
May 30, 200718 yr Author Thanks everyone. I'm glad. I wasn't too excited about the idea of having to clean it. It's just very light smudges, probably only noticeable because I'm pretty paranoid about the little eggs! So I won't be touching them! Thanks again!
