Posted May 28, 200717 yr STEEL went in his first budgie show yesterday as an UBC ( unbroken cap ) also known as barhead category in some circles. Unfortunately Steel was the youngest there and others were more developed than he was. He placed third and got a little yellow certificate for his placing. One thing that could be said in his favour was, all the others were judged from the show cage floor as they wouldnt "show" on a perch. STEEL perched the whole time and looked good, even if he was a tad smaller than his slightly older competitors. Edited June 19, 200717 yr by **KAZ**

May 28, 200717 yr Congratulations steel and Kaz.I think 3rd is a great achievement. Plus he is just so beautiful.
May 28, 200717 yr Well done Steel. Isn't he the first budgie breed by you that you have entered in a show? That's a GREAT result.
May 28, 200717 yr Author Well done Steel. Isn't he the first budgie breed by you that you have entered in a show? That's a GREAT result. YES :ausb: I hadn't even thought of that
May 28, 200717 yr Author Oh also wanted to know if you decided to take Mammoth as well? I had Mammoth in the showcage on the day, and he was behaving in there as well. But I came to a decision that Mammoth didnt look quite as good as Steel did...he had kind of "grown into his face" if you know what I mean...so I left him at home.
May 28, 200717 yr weel done kaz and steel. Third place for a first time budgie show is awesome in my opinion.
May 30, 200717 yr Awww CONGRATULATIONS to the both of you Karen you must be so proud of the lil man .. GOOD JOB!
May 31, 200717 yr Author Is there a limit on the number of birds you can enter? No limit...you can take as many birds as you have show cages for. Some show breeders arrive with over 20 cages. Each entry only costs you 50 cents to enter the bird :ausb:
May 31, 200717 yr Congratulations! I think 3rd is a great accomplishment for his very first outing. :ausb:
May 31, 200717 yr Well Done Kaz. But you should have give him a go. I pulled a hen from the culling cage on Monday and put in the table show. The judge put her first... hey what do I know. ( as it was after the nationals, i was the only competitor)
June 9, 200717 yr A belated congratulations Kaz.. An absolutely stunning young bird! It makes my mouth water for my first show entry... Our budgie club is starting it's shows for green rings soon... so we'll see (Laughing out loud)
June 9, 200717 yr Author A belated congratulations Kaz.. An absolutely stunning young bird! It makes my mouth water for my first show entry... Our budgie club is starting it's shows for green rings soon... so we'll see lol Good luck with your entry into showing. It's quite exciting PS Steel has moved into the fledgling aviary now with a lot of other "pre-moult" youngsters.
June 10, 200717 yr Author And Steel will be able to advance into other categories, correct? Steel can be shown as an UBC ( unbroken cap ) until his moult or until his bars recede. After that he would be shown in the young category as a dominant pied.
June 19, 200717 yr Author Steel is growing....he is getting longer. Steel is in the fledgling aviary with all the youngster up to ages of 7 months Here is one of his mates....Bih Lin ( named after our member Cheeta ) and the daughter of CUSTARD R.I.P
