Just the 2 the black thing is a marble Long story

I don't think that my eggs are fertile even though they are white As...

I tried to candle them but couldn't see anything they were first laid on the

19th May the 2 on the 22nd of May I am not to sure if I did it right

She started sitting on the 23rd Full time and she rotates them

if I added it up right first is due to hatch on the 6th of June....

Did you see any redness? It would be best since you are unsure to leave them for the full time. 18 day + about another 5 more past the due date to be sure.

Hi Neat, make sure it is dark when you candle the eggs. Here is an article which explains what they should look like.

Even if you don't think they are fertile you need to wait until at least 26 days after the last one was laid to be sure.

I agree, I have read too many times when people thought they were not fertile only to find a chick inside forming.

Yeah I am going to leave them there for ages I don't want to toss anything as yet, she doesn't seem to be sitting as long anymore but still turns them

I tossed out an egg the other day that I felt was well past its "use by" and thought I would open the egg to satisfy my curiousity. Wish I hadnt...the chick would have hatched within a few days if I had left it in the nest.

 

It gave all the signs of an egg with a very large airspace, and dark like a rotten egg would have been.

Sorry to hear that Kaz... I will wait 2 weeks past their due date surely that would be fine... But because they are in my laundry ( warmth) when the dryer is on would it COOK the eggs.. I don't mean like a fried egg would it spoil the "baby"..... Or is this why she isn't sitting so much as it is warm in there

I candled both one was clear and the other was dense so I will wait... How ever to of my other pair are now mating: )

Since there is a difference in them you may have one fertile. The heat from the dryer might be the reason she isn't sitting on them for long. Try and spray her with water when off the nest. NOT so she is soaked just one or two squirts it will help the humidity in the nest box.

okay Back to the Infertile thing ..... Since this post Snowhite has passed over, Prince has hooked up with another and they are sitting on 3 eggs and AGAIN NOTHING !!! EMPTY .... I am assuming that he is infertile??? is there a way to check ????

Make sure the birds are in breeding condition, age, ceres blue and brown are they lively jumping around tapping the cage and perches.

 

Noise! Birds need stimulation, A lot of people with only a couple of pairs of budgies will find it hard to get the birds breeding. They need the chattering noise of other budgies to get them motivated. A trick I have used recently when I have had only half a dozen birds paired, is to play a DVD of my old breeding room when I had thirty to thirty five pairs together with chicks calling to be feed and all the other deafening calls and noise. This gets a instant response and the birds are wanting to join in, and start a family themself, so to speak!

 

Most hens won't start incubating until the second or even third egg is laid.

Infertile eggs should be removed as they take up space and warmth better used by fertile ones.

Eggs usually hatch after about 17 or 18 days of incubation.

Neat I don’t think there is any practical way of checking if a cock is infertile, if as you have done tried him with a couple of hens & had the same results I would start to think he is…if he is a specially good cock you could let him fly in the aviary for some time & then try again, but after that if I were you I would give up on him, as you waste so much time & hens.

I will let him be free for a while and maybe in 3 months give him another go if no good then he can be in the flight cages....

Thanks throw back - I Colony Breed ! They have mated and etc as this isn't my first time with the whole breeding side .... But as he as been but with 2 hens with unsuccessful clutches i kinda figured that he was no good at being a "dad" .... I am guessing that is why he was at a produce store for sale

I am lucky in that sense that I only breed pet budgies - Whould be a pain for a show breeder !!!

Some hens can cause the infertile egg thing too, as I have mated hens with tried & tested cocks [that produced young before] & got infertile eggs still. But mostly I have found it to be the cocks fault.

I know Throwback is saying about the noise of breeding birds!! I colony breed too (nest boxes in my main flight) and i have 3 pairs with newly hatched chicks and another pair starting to mate - it is SOOOOO noisy here and i only have a few more birds than you . Perhaps they need some mood music to get them going hehehe.

Also personally, i don't handle or candle eggs. i know a lot recommend it, but so many things can go wrong when handling eggs that i prefer to just leave them be.

Up date: These birds have moved on to oher partners and produces babies well Prince ( colablt only 1 fetile DIS .. snowwhite has since passed over the rainbow leaving a snowman ( about to be a dad)
