I've Gone Blue Too

Hi all, well I've gone blue too, just like Kaz in this post: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=15208

I have been after some blues series birds for a while now and was very disappointed in the lack of blue birds in our recent club auction. These are some of my new purchases which will help me breed some stock birds which I can then pair for exhibition qualities the following season.

They are beautiful, congrats Aly

The 2nd hen is an opaline too I am sure you knew that just threw it in for others

they are gorgoeus. Just a question: How much did you pay for one of those show birds??

Congratulations on your new additions.I love the last hen she is gorgeous.

nice pictures...nice birds...Congratulations, I hope your successful with their babies.

They are gorgeous Aly. We did very well with our "injection of blue" into our breeding birds didn't we ? As to price, I heard someone ask...not a lot...very reasonable

PS I like the mauve boy too.

very nice I want your mauve cock bird.

He is a lovely buff bird, as is the first cock, who had a feather duster for a brother. The sky violet hen is a really good size too. All of the birds that I looked at (the seller was lovely and bought a selection of birds to me) were in very good condition and nice sized birds. She said when she took them out it made the rest of the ones she had left to sell look puny :(

Very well, Kaz. I gave Irene the internet address, so she saw the birds in photos online. Even better we didn't have to fight over any, like we thought we might have to do at the auction. She had 2 very lovely pieds with her too, but that's your department. You and pied birds were meant to go together. You have a clearwing or two don't you. Maybe you could cover the DEC end of town as well :)

I have the mother of the feather duster also, Aly ...this hen I believe AAturnleysbirds043.jpg

however, I am under the impression that it needs genes from both sides to produce a feather duster (correct me if I am wrong )...she is pretty, so I will take the chance.

Irene and Rob's birds were lovely and extremely healthy too. Nice people. :) Irene has often helped me choose some very good birds.

The only clearwing I think I have is my green boy. I have heard a club member from SWBC is bringing back quite a few clearwings from her trip to the nationals.

Very nice birds Feathers.....I was told the same thing that there is a shortage of blue birds at this time.

Can we have some more pics... an some of your aviary again... :(

I was a little surprised, when I read that WA was struggling to get 3 clearwings for the team,I thought I read in a bird mag there were

some good clearwings in WA. A big chance for someone to get some good pair together & breed some for next years National.

Yep, it isn't a bad thing. They are just ocassional abhorations, so you can't predict them.

Getting hold of a good blue bird in W.A. at the moment is near impossible.

I'll see what I can rustle up for you Paul. There are quite a few birds I haven't posted yet.

great birds feathers

Thank you and everyone else for their comments on my new additions. I think we just found where a lot of the blue birds in WA have been hiding.

Hi ppls, These are some other birds that are in quarantine. I got them a week before the blues above:

He is going into a breeder cage with a skyblue clearwing hen today

I am getting there with my exhibition stock. I just need more breeding cabinets now. I have set up another 3 today - so I will have 11 in use. These new birds bring my numbers to 16 hens and 17 cocks. Slowly, slowly :D

is this one a spangle too?

They are all gorgeous :)

is this one a spangle too

Quite possibly, Elly, but it would be entered in a show as a clearwing.

right I was just asking for genetic purposes and because I saw it

Would you put in Spangle too in the description for the show or just leave as a Clearwing?

Nope, you bench budgies in 'a' category' There is no category for a yellow face spangle, you would decide whether to bench it as a spangle or a yellow face. Simarlary there is not a category for a spangle clearwing. This budgie is an extremely poorly marked spangle, so it would be benched as a clearwing.

When you show birds they are entered using a numbered code that applies to the mutation of the budgie. The code is printed on a sheet called The Matrix. If you have a budgie that is made up of a few mutations and you are unsure of which classification to enter it as...the list works from top to bottom. The ones listed at the top refer to the primary classifications. So you look at your bird and then you look at the list and the description or mutation closest to the top of the list that applies to your bird is the one it is entered in. That is how it was explained to me anyway. As novices, we are allowed the odd mistake or two and if we wrongly classify a bird when entering its code, they correct it for us at the stage they are judging the bird.
