Posted May 22, 200717 yr I am getting a budgie in the future. I would like to know how to bathe a budgie. I think it is a weird question because it sounds simple enough to bathe a bird. I don't want to get it wrong and some how injure my bird. I don't think that anyone would like to injury there budgie. Thanks if any one can help. :rip: Budgielover Edited May 22, 200717 yr by Budgielover
May 23, 200717 yr All birds will bathe differently. Pretty chose lettuce with water in a dish. Merlin will bath in his water bowl but nothing else. Some like a light mist, others like the faucet it really depends on the budgie. Some hate water period :rip:.
May 23, 200717 yr You don't need to bathe your budgie. They keep themselves very clean by preening. If it will make you feel better, you can try running a thin drip of water in the sink, lightly spray misting them with a spray bottle (if you do this, buy a new bottle and don't use it for anything else but the budgies). Don't spray them directly, hold the bottle a little off to the side and spray up, so the droplets fall down on them like rain would. You can also hang lettuce in the cage, or as Elly said, put some in a shallow dish. If they are really in the mood for a bath, most budgies will use their water dishes. If your budgie decides he doesn't like any method of bathing you present to him, you don't need to worry about it. Sometimes it takes awhile for him to be unafraid of the dish, or the spray bottle, or the strange room, etc. Edited May 23, 200717 yr by Rainbow
May 23, 200717 yr Take him into the shower with you. Sometimes they want to join you and sometimes not. Just don't put the water on too hot, and don't force him into it. Paris comes in with me, and I put him on the top of the glass screen. If he wants to come in he lands on my head and hops onto my shoulder, then I hold my arm out so he can run in and out of the water or the spray as he likes. He usually climbs up my hair back onto my head when he has had enough, then I put him back on the screen so I can have a turn. If they get too waterlogged don't let them fly because they will stack it.

Budgielover You don't bathe it ..... either spray with fine mish pump spray ( Room temp / warm water ) or leave a little container with water in it so they can bath themselves

May 25, 200717 yr Hi Budgielover, you are the kind of future budgie owner that we absolutely LOVE to see. Too many people see these beautiful little birds in a pet shop and buy one on a whim. They aren't given any useful advice, and quite often the advice given is wrong (especially when it comes to choosing an appropriate sized cage). I applaud you. You have done the right thing in getting information about their care first. Please remember "There is no such thing as a dumb question" , but there are dumb people who are too scared to ask. AS has been said above, ever budgie is different, a few of mine bath in their water and a lot of them just LOVE a spray from a misting bottle Feathers.
May 28, 200717 yr Author I read that some budgies hate water. I sure hope that my budgie loves to bathe. At first I did not want a bird. After I read about them I learned that it would be really fun to have on. I don't want to just get one on inpulse so first I read up on some pets I might want. I never knew how much they need and I know that If I have a guestion I should come to this website to get it. Thanks. your right as you said feathers, "There is no such thing as a dumb question" , but there are dumb people who are too scared to ask." Budgielover

At times if one jumps in then it is monkey see monkey do. Pretty never bathed but when he saw Merlin doing it in the water cup he started to but not as much as Merlin .
