Posted May 21, 200718 yr Not sure if any of you have experienced similar ... but I was washing some greens under the sink and chico flew down and was having a wash himself .... he gets a little excited and flies off now and then and comes back ... but he accidently flew into a pot I had soaking with bolognese sauce in it, it was reddy / oily water and he flew straight back out ( a little traumatised) and I caught him and wrapped him in a chux and washed him down under luke warm water, and am pretty sure I got it all off him .... I feel SOOOOO BAD !! he is quietly in his cage now .... but he will be okay wont he ???
May 21, 200718 yr keep an eye on him if you see that he doesn't perk up by tomorrow you may want to take him in to the avian vet for a check.
May 21, 200718 yr Author Yup he is all good !! I even called the vets to see if I did the right thing and she said yes, ESPECIALLY the fact I didnt use any soap .... he is back to his normal self now ... and u are right Bea ... he was just sulking cause he was SOAKING wet ! poor little bugger ... anyways lesson learned by me, Lids on everything !! lucky the water was cold !
May 21, 200718 yr thats good then. One of my budgies name is chico too. The name seems to be common as I now know 4 people that have a budgie named chico!! let me guess, is he yellow greenish?
May 21, 200718 yr I am happy to hear that Chico is fine. It was probably worse for you than it was for him. It's always goo dto learn a lesson before it becomes a life threatening situation. Feathers.
May 22, 200718 yr Author thanks for your replies everyone Marlony he is actually a sky blue dominant.... such pretty colours he has , although looking motley cause of his recent molt .... Chico is a cute name for a budgie I think .... and he even speaks some spanish !! You are right Feathers when you said it scared me more than it did him, they just seem to be such tough little buggers sometimes !! but he is definately back to his normal self now ... May 22, 200718 yr If he is soaking wet, and it is night time or cold, I recommend a blow dry off with the hairdryer. I do it with my budgie Paris and he likes it. I think of it like going to bed with wet hair on a cold night - might give him a chill. See how he reacts first, not on a hot setting and not too close, and not blasting in his face. Paris doesn't mind the noise either.

I know the noise of the vaccumm cleaner doesnt bother Chico and birds naturally fly in wind as well .... I would say I will keep that in mind for next time but Hopefully there wont BE a next time !...
