Our FAQ's are passed over frequently at our forum and if you want a wealth of information here is where you will want to go Great Information from our BBC FAQS

As for taming female or males will both be simple to tame with patience. What you are looking for is a younger budgie, one that has been handled from the nest and parent raised. I suggest you start looking for a breeder that works with their budgies from the nest.

Most pet stores have budgies that are mixed in age and are not handled and if they were are not anymore. Pet stores are a wonderful place to purchase a budgie you just have to know what to look for you can read this article here Evaluation of a Pet Store. Breeders are excellent to chose because some will take time to handle the babies but you have to ask here is a good article to read Evaluation of a Breeder. Both of these articles are from our FAQ section.

If you are looking for a vocal, talkative budgie you may just be wanting a male.

If you are looking for a quieter budgie a female is what you may want. Females can learn to talk but males are considered better mimickers.

Either male or females are wonderful, taming has to do with time, patience and the birds background.

Hope that helps.

Hi Budgielover, welcome to the BBC forum. I agree with Elly, you need to read through all of our FAQ's. There is so much fantastic information. There are categories listed on the left hand side of the screen that you can click on to learn about all aspects of caring for and ownng a budgie.

Thank you feathers.

I have a question for anyone out there, When I get my budgie will it be okay to leave it home while I am at school?

Don't worry I will play with it after school and I will have so toys for him. I will also Have a big enough cage that he can streach, fly, and play. I will also give it food in the morning. and after school I will get him some fresh fruit and vegies.

Thanks again

Yes it is okay to have a single budgie but you do have to make sure you spend the time necessary with it. Providing toys, different types of foraging ways to find food and more to keep them busy is important.

Wonderful Budgielover. Its good that you are learning first before you get your bird. Please read up on how to tell the sex of a budgie if you specifically want a boy budgie. Do not rely on petshop staff to get it right for you, as they often dont. Also read up on how to tell the age of a budgie as again petshop staff may sell you an older bird and say it is a baby one. Before you buy your bird, regardless of its colour, be sure it is healthy and happy and has a "clean" bottom and sleek feathers. A poopy bottom and ruffled, fluffy looking feathers is a sign of a sick bird :D

Iam sooo excited for you Budgie lover... Getting a 1st time bird was wonderful for us as a family - Don't for get that some male bugies have pink cere's young females have pale / white rings around their nostrils that is a give away and don't be to shy if the pet shop tells you it's a male and you know it's not your better off going somewhere where they know what they are talking about!

And I am sure "sam"will be find while your at school .... Do your homework when you get home then you can have uninteruppted time with him....

Best off luck with it all and as for you have learnt so much and you still have more to learn ... We ALL have more to learn but we are all here for one another ....

All the best
