Posted May 20, 200718 yr I heard that if you put crested with crested that some of them will die? I don't know if this is true because I really want to start breeding cresteds. Can you get a clearbody crested? Thery are my favorite two types of budgies and I was wondering if you could get one. Is there any way to make sure you get tuft cresteds or is it just luck what you get? How much would you pay for a good yellow face blue crested and a yellow face blue crestbred?

May 20, 200718 yr You could get Clearbody Cresteds by crossing a Clearbody Cock with a crested Hen. I have read that Crests are dominant but controlled by more than one gene, at least one that carries the crest gene and possible more than one other that decides is it is shown or not. I think the best results are bred by crossing Crested birds with Crestbred Birds (a bird without a crest, but with one crested parent). Following that thought, the highest percentage of crested clearbodies could be achieved by: 1. Crossing a Crested bird with a Clearbody, males from this breeding would be potential Crested or Crestbred and split Clearbody. 2. The cock chicks from the above breeding could then be bred to a crested hen to get Crested Clearbody hens. I am sure their are other ways of getting what you want, thats just what I came up with.
May 20, 200718 yr I believe this question as asked before too here is a article Crested by Al-Nassar that will clear up questions on this type of mutation.
