Hi,

I'm in the process of building my aviary still and have a seperate aviary to house my non-breeding budgies. Does anyone know if I can house Java Finches with Budgies as a friend of mine told me you can? There will be no breeding in this aviary just a aviary for my birds to excercise and keep fit before the breeding season.

Any advice?

It is highly recommended that budgies reside with budgies only. We had Java finches and they were in with larger parrots in a HUGE aviary with room for all and hiding places. But I wouldnt dream if mixing anything really with budgies. Some people put tiels in with budgies, but tiels have "night frights" and I lost 6 good budgies due to night frights from tiels in an aviary next door.

The Javas we found were an active bird, sometimes too active at night for the other birds liking. How big will your aviary be ? Can you not have an area for your javas, separate to your budgies ?

The thing to remember when others advise you blending an avairy of birds....its all realtive to the species...how aggressive or gentle they are to get along, whether or not some types prefer to sleep when others dont, and its mainly about space and hiding places. I wouldnt mix anything with my budgies but other budgies. :)
