morning all, well i just went out to c see my birds and found my blue female feeding the neighbours 6 chicks while her mate was feeding there own 6 chicks. is that normal? i have never seen this before she must think she's super mum (Laughing out loud). cheers stacey

I've not heard if it before, I could see a male doing this more than a hen. Seems you have a very motherly hen :(

be careful there are no fights that break out because someone is over stepping their boundaries :D

I have had "aunty" types adopt someone else newly fledged chick in an aviary setting, which is nice and its okay once they fledge, but I would be concerned like Elly over an unrelated hen being where she should not be and the parents getting upset over it. Especially if the hen was going to the parents nestbox entrance to do the feeding :D

hi kaz. i to was concernd about that but the original mum dosnt seem to mind at all.i stood and watched for awhile and after super mum left the neighbours nest the other mum just sat at the entrance as if to say thanks. (they are not related).cheers stacey
