Posted May 16, 200718 yr Hi all, I have a budgie thats just under two years old. he's very healthy and seams very happy. he likes to swoop down and eat peas and corn off our dinner plate. He also sleep hanging upside down which is a bit odd but there is one thing that is i getting me a bit worried. Is that over the past 12months he has had a new bell in his cage. He has had many different bells in his cage that he's play with in the past this is the first one that he's getting overly affectionat with. (in other words he's humping this one bell) We thought this behavour was a bit odd especially when he was doing it 20% of the time he was awake. So we removed the bell for about a week. But during this time he would constantly sqwarking. So we put the bell back in but in a hard to get to location but he managed to figure a way to get back in to it. so my partner removed the bell the other night but he got really agro and was biting he hand really hard. which is somthing he has never ever dont before. Can any one shed some light on what up with our budgie, is he just lonely? or is he just like all adolecents? <<he looks like this
May 16, 200718 yr He is going through a hormonal stage and removing the bell is probably a good idea. Maybe its time to rearrange his cage for diversion therapy.

May 16, 200718 yr Budgies tend to get possessive of their things. Actually many birds do, and can also get possessive of people. If my bird Paris is out of the cage and I want him in, I just have to start touching his bell and he is in there straight away. They will bite too, especially if they are mating with the object. Paris likes to hump his ladder, and once I made the mistake of putting my hand in when he was going for it. He latched on so hard he drew blood, and I actually ripped him off the ladder when I whipped my hand back in shock! Don't ever make the mistake of putting a mirror in. You can say goodbye to your happy relationship. Paris turned into a biter, and has never been the same since. He also wouldn't come out of the cage either, wouldn't leave his 'girlfriend.' He's okay now, but still not as hand friendly as he was.
May 16, 200718 yr All the above posts are straight on. Is the bell reflective ie: shiney? He could be getting friendly with himself and not realize it's only his reflection. He yells when you remove it as you are to him taking his mate away.
