Can I have your opinion on this....I have 9 month old hen and a 7 month male....do you think they are

to young to breed with>

Budgies of this age, of course, CAN breed, but the issue would be whether or not they are mature enough to raise a clutch to fledging stage. In past "accidental" breeding situations of birds of similar ages, the parents often did not finish the job they started. A bad result :D

Interesting Question Paul. I was reading an article in the Budgerigar World on the same issue. The Avairian Vet which wrote the article was saying that it's up to the physical state of the birds. Some can breed successfully at a younger age but some may not be ready until 18 months to 2 years.

I've seen successful clutches from young hens. But I wouldn't advise it, the hens remained small for the rest of their lives... and really don't you want them to have a childhood before having babies? I think waiting till 1 yr old is probably best. ;)
