I had around 9 eggs, and none of them were fertile....I am not sure if my cocks are not old enough, they look to be about over a year old...but not to sure...I will have to maybe get some older cocks and hens and see if they breed for me. I am really wanting to see a baby budgie!!!!

 

If you can offer me any advice on breed please do, I could use all the help I can get...I also have quails that just lay and lay but dont sit on the eggs. I am trying an incubator but will have to wait another week to see if any babies hatch from them, but I cannot remember if the eggs were too old or not...but since they are still laying, I will grab a few more if the ones i have in the incubator dont hatch.

Well Julie....first thing don't give up..........I know of breeders as well as myself who haven't had a good start to the year..........I along with others have had 20-30 unfertile eggs this year.......no one seems to no why.....it's like sometimes when breed you get majority males sometimes a lot of females....who knows....may be just nature.

 

I f your bird are at a breeding age just keep going.........things may change.....Last year I had a pair that gave me 16 babies out of 16 eggs.........this year they have given me 8 infertile eggs.....but I'll let her have another lot of eggs and see how they go...

i agree with Paul with the never give up because basically numbers of fertile eggs vary each season the same with the number of eggs layed so if i was you i would keep trying and hopefully you can get some little ones soon

With the quails, do you have some hay in the corners of the avairy?

When I had Quails they told me that the hen will lay her eggs on the ground anywhere and when she is ready to sit she will gather up some eggs and sit.. All babies hatch at the same time like chickens..

 

I put hay in the corners of my avairy under cover, and never had a problem with her laying everywhere. She only layed in the corner she picked and when she finished laying she sat. The babies are so cute..
