Posted May 9, 200718 yr Hi, I'm trying to find out if my yellow budgie is male or female and what type of budgie she or he is. We were told by a friend that it was female so we named her Daisy. I was also told it was a Lutino but I guess it's not due to the black and not red eyes. What do you think? She is about 1.5years old. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT3929b.jpg http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT3933b.jpg http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT3936b.jpg Next I have my new Budgie Devo. I'm assuming Devo is male but I have no idea what color type he is, can anyone help me? Devo is very young. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT3955b.jpg http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT3960b.jpg http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT3938b.jpg Thanks.
May 9, 200718 yr Daisy is a girl. If she has a silver iris then she is a Double Factor Spangle, if her eyes are solid black she is a Dark Eyed Clear (recessive pied + clearflight pied). Very pretty hen. I think Devo is a hen... a closer picture of the cere/nostrils would help. He/she is a Double Factor Dominant Pied Skyblue <- thats a mouthfull! Edited May 9, 200718 yr by ellulah
May 9, 200718 yr Devo would be a hen because if he was a boy in the DF Pied seried the boys will have a blue cere and iris rings . Beautiful birds. oh and me 4
May 9, 200718 yr Devo would be a hen because if he was a boy in the DF Pied seried the boys will have a blue cere and iris rings . Beautiful birds. oh and me 4 EdBarajas said Devo is young so I was assuming the nostrils may still be baby coloured...
May 9, 200718 yr Can I be such a pain again... and throw in a spin for Devo... ?? In the case that if he is a DF dom pied, there's a possibility of Devo being a cock! My little Spirit is a DF dom pied, and for the longest of time I thought that he was a she until 'she' was released into the aviary and met Blondie, and then 'she' showed me that 'she' was capable of 'getting jiggy with it' with Blondie, soooo 'she' became a he.. and if anyone sees him and his cere now, they'd would say that he is a she... Hows that for a spin in the equation?!?!
May 9, 200718 yr Yes but I think I can see those tell tale white rings around the nostrils! But I think this one will be a wait and see game.
May 9, 200718 yr What Cheeta says about the cere of a DF dom pied is so true. I have had at least two DF dom pieds that "looked" female and werent. Ceres not being blue on DF dom pieds (mostly ) But considering this one's a youngster, we had better wait and see I guess. I think hen ..... Edited May 9, 200718 yr by Kaz
May 9, 200718 yr Thanks for all the replies! Here are some closeups of devo: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT4015b.jpg http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT4014b.jpg http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT4013b.jpg And Daisy had to get in on the action too. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/Tr...d/PICT4018b.jpg So does everyone still think Devo is a Diva?
May 9, 200718 yr I would say totally female here is Merlin's cere when he was a baby like Devo you can see how pink and he is a dominant pied.
May 9, 200718 yr The first two pics do make Devo look like hen, but the third picture makes Devo looks like what Spirit looked like when he was younger. I'll have to see if if I can find a good picture of Spirit's cere. And oh, Daisy looks like she has red eyes? if she does, it means she's Lutino. If she doesn't, she is a double factor spangle as there's an iris rings.. but I'm pretty sure she's a lutino. Cheeta are you following me today :hap: Oh Elly, I am so sorry.. I'm not even realising what I've been doing.. sorry hun, I didn't mean to look like I'm trying to 'undermind' you at all... I was just 'adding' other possibilities to genetics equations.. hehe.. EDIT... I found some pics of Spirit, and I forgot about Quake.. he's my dom pied, but his cere isn't blue either, but definitely a boy as well.... a picture of Spirit (top) and Quake (on the perch)... I thought that they were both girls, but to my delight (as I have an aviary full of hens already), they turned out to be cock birds. Spirit's cere up close Quake's cere up close Edited May 9, 200718 yr by Cheeta
May 9, 200718 yr The differance with Spirit and Quake is they have already lost their baby bars (and the start of rings) where as Devo has the bars all the way to the cere and a LOT of white showing around the nares. I will still stick with hen
May 10, 200718 yr Oh, I am not saying the Devo is a boy.. I was just adding to the equation that's all..
