Posted May 7, 200718 yr Here is a easy way to build an aviary! I had a 6x4 shed built a wired frame with a door inside to half it - put some support beams through edge of roof, so they run parallel to the existing beams, support these with an external frame - place boarding over new beams on roof and felt - wire inside of shed and frame work outside - we built a two brick high base for the frame to sit on. That was my original aviary since then we have extended it from the other half of the shed so in total my avairy is about 20ft long and 4 ft wide with shelter in the middle. We also built a shed onto the new end which houses hospital cages and the food. The whole aviary has a pitched roof and looks great and is better than a flat roof in this country. I have 12 quail running around in the aviary keeping the bottom clean, Chinese Painted (Button) and Japanese, 5 canaries which are hapily breeding as are all my budgies. I have not had any dissagreements with the birds in fact one baby budgie has fallen to far in love with one of the quails and tries his hardest to do the deed! He must be confused bless him! I must be lucky because my budgies, have not once disturbed the canaries and vice versa. So if anyone wonders if you can mix these different birds my answer is a Yes without a doubt. The only thing I am not totally sure of in all this is wether or not I caould put evergreen tree branches in the aviary for the quial as they like to play - but I do not know if this is poisonous to budgies so I have not tried it.

May 9, 200718 yr Hi, Can you post some pictures of your aviary? I'm planning on building one myself and I can really use some good ideas.
