Posted May 7, 200718 yr I'm sure its been asked before but i will ask again anyways just incase... Is Popcorn safe for budgies to nibble on? Only asking as i make it fresh most mornings for my girls to take to school and little Apple goes NUTS when he hears it popping.. a few times hes jumped up onto the bench and nibbled through the bag to get a little bit although i always stop him when i realize.. Its funny watching him nearly bust a valve trying to get at some Any thoughts on this? Cheers  Una DOH... Can someone please move this down to the food and nutrition section please sorry Edited May 7, 200718 yr by »-(¯`Una´¯)-»
May 7, 200718 yr I'm also interested to hear what the answer will be because I DO give my budgies plain popcorn (no salt or additives) occasionally and I have to tell you it's their top favorite treat. The only way to describe it is a feeding frenzy. Their little faces are covered in the stuff.
May 7, 200718 yr Author Its funny how addictive the stuff seems to be.. Apple just goes absolutely nuts when he hears it popping.. he bounces up and down flapping his wings making weird little piping noises as if hes soooo excited then when he actually sneaks up onto the counter its like hes been starved for the last few months and he goes into this feeding frenzy although he has to try and rip through the bag first Maureena how do you cook yours, air popped or with a little oil? I was thinking that maybe if it was popped with a little Cod liver oil or Safflower oil.. Cod liver oil would give them an additional source of iodine, more vitamins and Safflower oil is rich in essential fatty acids. Just a thought
May 7, 200718 yr Plain popcorn is totally fine for budgies. Should probably not be a major part of their diet, (Laughing out loud), but i'm sure it's fine for Apple to have a nibble. :(Laughing out loud):

I haven't tried to add anything. I just feel they need a treat sometimes too and plain popcorn hasn't seemed to have hurt them. The hamster also would be standing up peering out through his cage when it was being made too, and he was pretty greedy about the stuff as well. I just love the feeling of being swarmed when I have a bowl of popcorn...they all want to land on me and get at that stuff.
