Posted May 6, 200718 yr Before I came to this forum, I thought the difference in YF’s [the amount of green in the chest] was just a fault & thought you just had to select to remove as much green as possible. Now I understand the YF1 & YF2…but I wonder why you seem to get both in some batches from the same parents. With these pictures I have had the same problem some others have talked about, of getting the colour right [true to life] especially when using flash. It’s hard for me to take pictures without flash as my aviaries are in a bird room & have shade cloth over the wire to deter Hawks etc. It seems worse with YF & violet birds, as the colour changes. The first picture is the father bird…an YF1 [i think], in reality he is much darker, I thought maybe a violet, but the blue has washed out & more green appears than in the real bird. He is paired with a Sky Blue Opaline Cinnamon Clearflight hen. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/gr...6666/YFblue.jpg These are three of their young, now moulted. The hen & one cock have plenty of green in their chest, but the Clearflight pied appears to mostly just have blue. Have any of you had similar experiences & what are your thoughts? http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/gr...FbluehenJPG.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/greenie6666/YFOp.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/greenie6666/YFcl.jpg
May 6, 200718 yr that is weird. I think the only possibility is that the father is yft2.. is there any way you can get a picture without flash? That will help a lot.
May 6, 200718 yr The yellowface gene 2 can spread on the whole bird or not on the whole bird. As the bird moults out more and more the yf2 gene will spread more and more making some birds look "sea foam" green all over and some don't moult out as bad and just have the yellow on their chest. YF2 is a dominant trait over YF1 and I have never read that you can remove this gene. To get the YF desired in the show ring I would assume you would bred YF1 with YF1 or YF1 to white face but never YF2 since it is dominant over YF2. I hope I answered your question.. As the 3rd bird moults out you may find that the yf gene will spread out more I see it in his neck a bit (unless that is my bad monitor). Here is an article about the YF2 gene that may help too http://www.birdhobbyist.com/parrotcolour/peter/yface01.html here are pics of our member YF2 http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=9577
May 6, 200718 yr Author Here are two other brothers YF Blue from the same parents, one looks like a YF1 the other a YF2, to me, what do your think? http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/greenie6666/YF.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/gr...e6666/YF2Op.jpg
May 6, 200718 yr they both look like YF2 to me, I can see the bleed slightly coming into the neck does he have white around his wings and tail?
May 7, 200718 yr I would say all are type 2 (or goldenface) All have some bit of bleeding, like the pied gene the strength and speed of the bleeding though of yellow is different to each bird.
May 7, 200718 yr Author So if I have got it right, from what you all say, the YF1 doesn't have any yellow in it's tail even only it's mask? I thought it was YF1 if it didn't have the bleed in the chest causing the sea green effect. Edited May 7, 200718 yr by Norm
