Will Oscar Hate Me After His Bout Of Antibiotics?

Um I had to take my baby budgie to the Vet today as he was snezzing yesterday and was all fluffed up. I was given Baytril Drops to give to him twice a day. She didn't want to do any tests because she felt he might stress a little too much because he is so young. The problem is that she adviced me not to take him out of the cage unless giving him his drops. Mainly because I'm 32 weeks pregnant and she would hate for me to have any unnecessary contact just incase it is more serious. I'm just worried that he is going to hate coming out of the cage after all this is finished. What should I do?

After you are finished dosing him reward him with his favorite snack for many budgies that is millet. The key is after you are done finish on a positive note and visit him frequently to have more good moments with you then 1 bad one during the day.

Hope he is feeling better soon.

Congrats on the baby.

Welcome to our forums

I've had to give medication to my birds a number of times and it hasn't affected their tameness. Baby doesn't really count in this example because she's tame beyond belief and her contact didn't have to be limited to just getting her meds. Cupid however, isn't very tame and he had to be on strict cage rest in a small cage for over a week. The only time he got to really interact with us was when we gave him his meds. Of course, he wasn't too happy about it, but he didn't resent us either. I did my best to talk with him and offer him millet through the cage bars at other times of the day too. After its all over, he's still willing to step up and has even let me kiss him a couple of times. Elly has good advice about ending on a positive note too. Good luck!!

Hi ,

I have had to give Baytril drops to my budgie (he is about 3 months old).

I can tell he hates me during the time. He was screaming and crying when i catched him and he also closed his beak

and didn't let me open it. He opened it only when i put my finger close to his beak so he could bite me. I had a chance to put the drops only when he managed to bite me.

Today is about 2 weeks after the medication and i gave him millets and i can tell he is happy again.

Congrats on the pregnancy.....

If the budgie needs it then just do it? I agree with elly on the finish on a positive note ( Just like kids : ) ) I don't understand just cause your pregnant that you need to stay away? if it is just a cold? But better do what they say to be on the safe side...

How about putting your hand/ finger in there so he can still sit on it that way there is still contact....

All the best with this and the birth of your baby...
