Posted May 3, 200718 yr 3rd and final pair!!! Zeus is a yellow face blue. I think the colour is called seafoam - electric looking blue mixed with the yellow base to give a "not realistic" green" Milly might ba standard blue, but she seems a little diluted. Her colour is not "bright" and her wings look more grey than black, but she is nto a grey wing i do not think. Zeus (at the back, good shot for colour comparison) Milly together Last time I ask - what will this produce? Is the yellow face dominant? can they be dilute? Does dilution get passed on? is dilution a word? Thanks
May 3, 200718 yr Millie looks like a skyblue and she may be carrying the violet gene because I see up by her neck violet colorations. There are different degrees of greywing some very light and some not there are also fullbody greywings where the wings are grey but the body is bright. If you believe she is a greywing then dad will need to carry the greywing gene too to have any greywings. You will have all blue babies. All the babies will have yellow faces since yes YF is a dominant gene There of course are any surprises with recessive genes that both parents will need to give to the babies and then any sex-linked genes that dad is carrying that he can give to his hens.
May 3, 200718 yr Author One thing I forgot to mention was the difference in egg size with the other 2 nesting pairs. Milly has laid a larger egg, so i am thinking that since she and Zeus are larger birds, they will have larger eggs and larger chicks. thanks again Elly for your answers. Fantastic having someone so knowledgable we can go to, and the speed of your posts is amazing.
May 3, 200718 yr (Laughing out loud) I have time here this morning, I will be signing off soon BUT yes the size of the chicks is determined by the size of the parents.
May 3, 200718 yr Author okay, see i always thought she was more grey than cinnamon. I suppose I need to consider that strenthgs of things, for example, some cinnamon birds are really brown, whilst others are not. right?
May 3, 200718 yr a cinnamon will have brown throat spots sometimes in the sun Merlin's markings will look brownish but they are black
May 4, 200718 yr Author Milly definitely does not have brown/cinammon throat spots, she has black, jsut not a very strong black, that is why I think she may have a dilute gene, even if it is a very weak dilute
May 4, 200718 yr Milly definitely does not have brown/cinammon throat spots, she has black, jsut not a very strong black, that is why I think she may have a dilute gene, even if it is a very weak dilute The throat spots arent the same shade of brown as the wings as a rule. My boy custard is a cinnamon and his throat spots are darker too.
May 4, 200718 yr I don't see red in the eye for fallow Elly. It is possible for her to have the violet gene. Sometimes Cinnamon can look grayish in the wings. It's a bit hard to tell with these pictures. However Cinnamon is a sex link gene and so she will give it only to her sons (split for) if she is a greywing then she will pass it to ALL her babies (split for) All the babies will have yellow faces since yes YF is a dominant gene Not exactly He may only have 1 YF gene and 1 normal blue gene. Paired to the hens 2 normal blue genes some of the babies can be white faces while the ones that get the YF gene will be yellowface.
May 4, 200718 yr Author sebby definitely had red eyes. Photos may nto show it, but i can confirm 100%
May 4, 200718 yr I thought we where talking about Milly? I can see the red eyes in Sebby. A shot of her wings would be good too, there are a few markings that look to be spangle.
May 4, 200718 yr Nerwen I believe I was all confused on which post I was posting on anymore  I think that post was DEFINTELY for the other post where Sebby was invovled. I edit my response and run I am confused now I think
May 4, 200718 yr That okay Elly We worked that out last night once Karen gave me a link to the 2nd pair thread
May 14, 200718 yr Author It has been a little while since an update on this pair. Milly is a very good Mum who spends all her days, except for a quick toilet stop, stretching and the occasional minutes of pure enjoyment with Zeus, sitting on fours very large eggs. I am surprised at how big these eggs are, they have to be twice the size of Sebby's, and 1.5 times the size of angels, at least. I am more hopeful of getting chicks out of these 2 than any others. I will keep you updated.
May 21, 200718 yr Author Well, the good news is that there is a young one hatched in the nest box. She is bigger than that other two that are in the other nest boxes, but that is to be expected due to the size of her parents, and the size of the egg. She is an only child so far, but I am hoping the other eggs all hatch. Pics soon hopefully Lady, just giving everyone a chance to feel comfortable with the new additions.
May 21, 200718 yr Good Job Pleased to hear about your "jellybean"...best of luck for the other imminent hatchings.
May 23, 200718 yr Author very hard to tell if anymore hatchlings. Milly sits and refuses to leave. She shelters her young very well and I have to say I am kind of proud of her for that. I am thinking that there are 2 in her nest box. She only layed 4 eggs, so 2 is good, 3 would be better, but we will see.

But you will have to check under her and you have to check the chicks daily from this point on. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...=125&artlang=en 4. Access to Nesting Box.
May 25, 200718 yr HI, sounds like they are going great, but I would agree with Kaz, you need to be able to check if new chicks are being fed, so checking Milly's nest box is important. Some hens might get 'bitchy' about it, but most will get used to it eventually. I had to practically put a bomb under one of mine to let me check her eggs, but now she is good about it and usually goes out when I knock. Feathers.
May 26, 200718 yr Author I have to shoo Milly out of the nest box to clean and check the young ones. She doesn't liek to leave for any reasons. She is protective, but at least clamer than Angel - 3 of the 4 eggs hatched, and I have my doubts about the 4th egg. Zeus is already looking to have some more "enjoyabe times" and Milly also seems interested. Anyway, here is a picture, more to come as they grow up.
