May 5, 200718 yr Author Great paintings Ellulah. Sebby looks like that middle one - the cinnamon greywing violet cobalt - however she is more diluted, her chest colour is no where near as bright as that, and of course, there are her red eyes. that one in the middle is my favourite colour budgie of all time. I had one of those about 20 years ago, and he looked just like that painting. I am on the lookout for another one like that.
May 14, 200718 yr Author A couple of days until the eggs hatch, if they hatch. I have my doubts as Sebby does not seem overly concerned about sitting on them - and they do seem very small. I will keep you updated.
May 21, 200718 yr Author Well, today an egg hatched. Mum and dad were both in the nest box attending to the young one when I got home tonight at about 9pm. This little one is so tiny, but very cute.
May 21, 200718 yr Another hatching !! Great news. Best thing you could have done was have a few pairs breeding at the same time...it helps in emergencies for fostering eggs or babies if things go "pear-shaped"
May 22, 200718 yr Yeah congrats on the widdle jelly bean......... The hen is beautiful what a suprise it's a Fallow I thought they were a rare breed anyhoo good luck with the rest
May 23, 200718 yr Author 2 in the nest box, but more eggs so possible hatchlings to come. All look dark eyed, so no fallows
May 23, 200718 yr I agree she is a fallow, but not dilute…fallow dilutes the colour anyway. The chances of the cock being split fallow are pretty rare, as fallows seem to be unpopular these days. I have a cock that looks the same colour as her, I have him paired to a Opaline violet hen, but haven’t had luck as yet, in one breeding cabinet she wouldn’t go in the nest, she laid some eggs on the floor, I moved her to another cabinet, then she spent months in the nest, no eggs gave her a rest. Now put her to breed again, looks like laying, but nothing yet, if she doesn’t do something soon will pair him up with something else. Also despite those painting calling those birds, Grey wing Cinnamons, I agree it can’t be possible. Edited May 23, 200718 yr by Norm
May 26, 200718 yr Author Took this photo the other day and I had trouble uploading it due to my connection busy getting LOST episodes, but that is another issue. This is Sebby and Romeo's box, there were 2 little one's in there. there are now 3 as a new young one hatched yesterday, but until new pics are taken, this one has to do. I added more nesting material today as well
May 27, 200718 yr Author it is funny as i thought that this pair had the best chance of having non-fertilised eggs, and yet they have 4 little ones now. pics to come - I will try to get some tonight
May 27, 200718 yr Author okay, pics as promised. 4 little ones now. In the first picture you see 3, and it is hard to see the 4th, no, not hard, impossible. In the 2nd picture it is a bit easier to see the 4th little one, well its butt sticking out, still hidden under bigger sibling's head, but there nonetheless. The flash does not help, but i need it on otherwise it was too dark with my shadow. more pics as they come.
June 2, 200718 yr Author 5 in the nest box now, and they all look like they will look like their Daddy. Does this mean that they will have the fallow gene? Here's some pics - see Feathers, another cute little bum!!! Thoughts?
June 2, 200718 yr Sebby will give the fallow gene to all the bubs (carrying it) My thoughts all are looking GREAT The third oldest? the very white/pink one (in the last picture facing down in the middle) may be different from normal. There are signs that it might be opaline.
June 5, 200718 yr Author More pics taken. i took them out but i was a bit nervous about their reaction, and their mothers, that in my wisdom, I forgot to take photos of them out - (Laughing out loud). I was concerned about splayed legs, but my biggest concern was for the eldest one. The first picture in this group kind of put my mind at ease a little, but still not sure how I tell or if it is just due to their weight versus the strength they currently have in their legs. Anyway, the pics - all look like they will be blue birds like Dad. Of course the little one is too young to tell yet, but anyway.... Pictures 2 and 4 clearly show the one that may possibly be an opaline, as suggested by Nerwen. We will see.
