New Friends For Snowy

Hi, I purchased two budgies from a breeder and named them Mork and Mindy, they are so cute i will add photos when i figure out how to put them on the computer, anyway, I have kept them seperate from Snowy for 30 days and purchased a bigger cage for them all to live in, i have now put them altogether but they seem to fight with snowy and bite each other, they havent drawn blood but it just concerns me that they dont get along, will this come with time or should i seperate them and keep Snowy in his old cage.

Can you put the two cages side by side? So they can get to know one another with out intruding upon the others territory? It will probably take some time for everyone to get along.

I can't wait to see pics!

Check the perching arrangements and the feeding spots. You may need to adjust a few placements of such things until they settle down...more feeding spots and different perching places. Just a thought.

When I introduce Pretty to Merlin it was a gradual process. When quarentine was over these are the steps I took.

1. I first let them out together on top of the cage with complete supervision

2. I kept their cages side by side but not where they could beak fight or pick at each others toes. So about 2 inches apart

3. I then let Merlin go in Pretty's cage during the day supervised only

4. I then let Merlin go in Pretty's cage during the day unsupervised only after I knew that everyone body was settled.

5. After I knew the daytime unsupervised time was okay, I then housed them together.

Now not everyone may do what I did but this is why I did this.

When I first introduced them Pretty thought Merlin was a girl (he was a boy) and kept trying to jump on his back plus he was very hyper flirting like mad. Merlin kept refusing his coes of love :grbud: and would do a lot of dolphin noises.

I moved only to the next step when Merlin was doing so much dolphin "mad" like budgie noises and Pretty settled down.

For me it took just a little under 2 weeks. Everyone is different some members can put their budgies in straight away (after quarantine is over) but I could not.

So if you having issues try this..:(.

The other thing that can help is to change around the cage to reduce any territorial issues. Doubling the feeding stations or changing the feeding dishes could help as well. Whoever was in the big cage first is probably just protecting their territory and moving everything around, and changing things, will help to lessen this.
