May 2, 200718 yr 24 inches across, 14 inches tall and 16 inches wide... Edited May 2, 200718 yr by SweetBirdOfParadox
May 2, 200718 yr That is just about the limit for 1 budgie and really 1 budgie needs more room. If you decided to purchase another bird you will need a much bigger cage and you can keep that one for quarentine. Go here to see members cages and you can get ideas :grbud: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...=132&artlang=en
May 2, 200718 yr Oh my, this cage is much bigger than his original cage, I thought I was doing the right thing by getting him this cage! It cost me $60 and he seems so much happier in it! :grbud:
May 2, 200718 yr Are you sure the dimensions are right, do you have a picture of it maybe I am interpreting it wrong? Here is information on a single budgie cage from our FAQ. Your lengh is good but the other dimensions come up short. Square or rectangular cages are best as they provide the most usable space for the budgie and make arranging the perches in a suitable way easier. Budgies prefer being at the very top of their cage, tall cages ultimately provide a much smaller amount of space. In a wide cage, your budgie will make use of the entire space as they fly horizontally (from left to right) not straight up and down. Flat top cages provide a good place for your budgie to play when he/she is outside of the cage; playgyms, stands and baths can be placed on top. Always buy the largest cage you can afford as budgies need a lot of space to play and stretch their wings, especially if they have to be in their cage for most of the day. 18"x18"x18" is a good size for a single budgie. You can also read Minimum cage size for one budgie. If you are going to get a 2nd budgie in the future considering a bigger cage would be wise. Do know that you will need to quarantine any added budgies so having a smaller cage just for quarantine is advised. In case one of your budgies get's sick this would also be ideal for a hospital cage to quarantine your sick budgie. If you buy a cage that is smaller than this it will be difficult to fit an adequate amount of varied perches and toys in the cage and your budgie may become bored which could lead to health problems. When purchasing a budgie cage, make sure that the bar spacing is no more than 1/2 inch. Anything larger could be enough for your bird to get his/her head stuck (causing injury or even death) or even escape
May 2, 200718 yr 24 inches across, 14 inches tall and 16 inches wide... Thats about the size of my breeding cages. Just for the duration of breeding. With two budgies it seems cramped, better when one's in the nest. I wouldnt want that size as a permanent arrangement...not for two anyway. :grbud: and there's less room once you add perches and swings and toys. Edited May 2, 200718 yr by Kaz

May 2, 200718 yr That is just good for one budgie you will need to get another one for 2. When I got my second budgie I went on to e-bay and a aviary style cage (you can see it in the link above for cage set-ups) for 100 US I was very pleased. Many of us on these boards have that cage with either 1 door or 2. Cages in stores are so over priced. If you just purchased it maybe you can take it back and get a bigger one.
May 2, 200718 yr Hiya, unfortunately bird stores are in the habit of selling cages that are great if you are a finch or a canary, but are no good if you are a budgie. So I have absolutely no doubt that the cage you are using now is heaps better suited for your budgie. Jojo will be very happy in that cage. Budgies don't hover and they can't go straight up. Budgies need a flight cage, a cage which is wide. A nice width for an indoor cage with more than one budgie would be 80 - 100 cm wide (31 - 40 inches). That gives them flying room from one side to the other. Feathers.
May 4, 200718 yr Are the dimensions you mentioned of the purple cage? As compared to the size of the budgie in it in the picture, it looks big enough for two. Do you let them out? I know bigger is better but they do look like they have a bit of room in there, especially if they're let out to play. 35cm high x 60cm long and 40.5cm wide. It does sound smallish but the picture does look bigger,
May 4, 200718 yr I notice you're in Australia. For two budgies you can get the same cage but a size up, you could get it on eBay for approx $60 delivered. It's 30"x18"x18" and a much better size for two. Then you could go bigger again and get a 30"x36"x18" in the same cage style. Also usually available on eBay and just a bit more expensive. Definitely worth looking at. I've used both sizes i've mentioned. The smaller for 2 budgies and the larger for 2 cockatiels. I now have both in a sturdier version of the larger one (still by same company) which cost me $150 each. Not to bad for the size, quality and it comes with the stand. You should be able to find all these types of cages in pet shops in Australia, but eBay will likely be cheaper.
