Posted May 2, 200718 yr Hi everyone! I have never owned a bird but decided to have one as a pet because I have friends with birds. I have got a bunch of books on books on budgies but any tips you guys have would be awesome!
May 2, 200718 yr Welcome to our forums, honestly there are tips all over the forum and check out our FAQ for general tips, to health to diet ideas. There is so much to learn about budgies and everyday I learn something more. I would enjoy seeing a picture of your budgie. What is his or her name?
May 2, 200718 yr Author I don't have a budgie yet but as soon as i find a breeder I will get one. (I don't want to get one from the pet shop) I hope to find a blue or green one.
May 2, 200718 yr excellent We have a great article in the FAQ section about Purchasing from a Breeder and a Pet Store you might want to read up on so you find the best place.

May 2, 200718 yr Author Do you guys hae any advise on finding breeders? I tried searching internet but I didn't see any in my area.
May 2, 200718 yr Welcome to the forum Kyle! It's great you are doing research on a budgie BEFORE getting one, a true sign of responsible pet ownership. You will find tons of great information on this site, pull up a chair, get your favourite beverage and enjoy a really good read!
May 2, 200718 yr Do you guys hae any advise on finding breeders? I tried searching internet but I didn't see any in my area. You may not find a good breeder via the internet. I would suggest you look for Budgerigar clubs near you and they will give you details of a responsible breeder.
May 6, 200718 yr Hi Kyle Great to have another budgie lover in the making. Don't forget to read up about suitable cage sizes for your future little friend.
May 11, 200718 yr Author I'm in L.A. but I found a good pet store. It's a small place and not a chain but the people are very helpful and they know the ages of their budgies. I've also found some bird shops that I am going to go to but they aren't very convenent(45 min. drive)
May 11, 200718 yr Here is a link to an article about the right cage for a budgie http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&highlight=cage You can imagine many pet stores steer people towards the entirely wrong kind of cage for a budgie, especially when they do "package deals"...buy a cage and get a free budgie kind of things. I have people come to buy budgies from me with tiny little canary cages or tall round cages...all wrong for a budgie and I educate them . So hopefully you wont end up with the wrong cage as the store staff didnt know enough to help you choose the right one. Best of luck
May 11, 200718 yr Welcome to the forums Kyle. Good job researching first! So many people just race out and buy. You'll find heaps on info in the forums and also in the FAQ section.
