Posted April 29, 200718 yr I finally decided that the gang would be better served with a bigger "community cage, rather then the string of lil Petstore type cages that are available these days. I had saved some instructions about 6 months ago and set them aside for a weekend I was feeling ambitious. That was this weekend. I grabbed some pics of the journey and thought Id share. Enjoy :hap: We ended up using about 12 small furring strips, 2 wider ones, 1 roll of hardware netting (plastic, not coated), a plywood scrap for the bottom where the tray sits, and some screws and hardware for the door. I had to cut down some boot trays for the bottom tray until I can find a nice big dog crate tray the right size to replace that with. All in all, I just love how it turned out. This is my hunny Pete, working on the cage and praying that the rain held off. Looking good :hap: I found the netting in Home Depot near where they keep the chicken wire. It is pliable but very think and heavy duty. The only regret is that they only seem to carry black, not a lighter color. Here is a pretty good front view of it. The over all dimensions ended up being 36"long x36"High x24" deep. A good size for my 6 biddies. It also freed up my most recent production cage purchase for a breeding cage. This is how it looks all finished with the baies enjoying it. Not bad for a Saturday project. Then they decided it was necessary to have a meeting about the new accomodations. Koko arrived a lil late, but there were still good seats available. Junior seemed to only really be interested in the variety of available swings. So far they are getting used to their new home and everyone seems to be pleased with it. Snip Edited April 29, 200718 yr by Snip
April 29, 200718 yr Hi Snip, great job.Black is actually better to see through than lighter colours, so it's not such a bad thing. Your reward is seeing how happy the budgies are in their new abode. feathers.
April 30, 200718 yr What a great "weekend" project you guys did, awesome, my compliments. The budgies seem to like it a whole lot too!
