Posted April 28, 200718 yr With all the dramas this week with the new budgies I must have been neglecting my poor canaries. The male canary is all fluffed up even when the house is warm at night with the fire lit. The only thing that I can see that is different is these brown patches have appeared on his legs. He is singing as usual and acting as he normally does. Now I have an appointment next week with the vet to take 4 of my poorly budgies (who are starting to look less poorly every day). Do I take him at the same time and risk cross infection. They will be in the car together for over an hour each way. I cannot get another appointment for another week. Or do I wait for the new appointment. The other problem is that he is in with the female who is sitting on 3 eggs and has been for 10 days, she seems to be losing some of the feathers around her neck but is otherwise fine. Do I take the whole cage with both birds or just him. (Any advice on what to do when and if these eggs hatch would be appreciated) I don't know the best thing to do. I know this is a site for budgies but I cannot find another one similar for canaries, finches or weiros can you guys suggest one. I do however have a budgie question. How long does it take for tail feathers to start to regrow. I have only had the budgies for a week and I am sure that a couple of the baldest ones look as if their feathers are starting to regrow. Is this my imagination. I have tried some of the recipes posted on here and they have ignored every one but they do like very burnt unbuttered toast which is my speciality. What do I do? Thanks Mandy
April 28, 200718 yr I would feel inclined to take the male along. If the budgies do tun out to have some contagious move the canary family to a different area of the house and treating them in quarantine from the rest. Also what is making him sick could affect the rest of the canaries as well. Just tell the vet he is at the moment breeding with his partner on eggs. I do however have a budgie question. Is this my imagination. that all depends on where in the moult cycle they are in. They might have been ready to regrow new feathers or they might be missing them for a few months. If they like the toast sprinkle some over the other things, it might tempt them to try.
