Posted April 25, 200718 yr Hi everyone One of my male budgies, Dawson, will not bond with anyone. I've given him the option of 3 different girls and he doesn't seem at all interested. Should I try him with some other females or just give up with him? Thanks Susannah xx
April 25, 200718 yr Susannah, is Dawson in breeding condition at the moment. i.e. has his cere gotten darker. He wont be at all interested if, hormonally, this is the wrong time for him. Feathers. Edited April 25, 200718 yr by feathers
April 25, 200718 yr My first thought also, girls, since a lot of people get the sex of recessive pieds mis-identified.
April 25, 200718 yr Hey Everyone, (Laughing out loud) I'm not really sure, I think he is a boy because there are no white rings on his cere. It's obviously pink as he is a recessive pied, he has no iris rings. Here is a picture of him: http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/3532/dawsonfb8.jpg Thanks Susannah xx I've had him for about a year now and I haven't noticed a change in his cere at all? It hasn't gotten noticeably darker in that time.
April 25, 200718 yr He looks boy to me and a cute one at that (Laughing out loud), sounds like maybe he just hasn't found the right girl for him. You know I read that budgies are attracted more to green budgies then blue...what color have the females you given been? Just curious
April 25, 200718 yr Thanks! I think he's cute A recessive pied with similar colours to himself, a green greywing, an opaline blue and recently a cinnamon blue. Should I get him some new ladies to choose from or give him a few more months and then try him again?
April 25, 200718 yr I would give him a break and I would pair him up with a lady that has had a successful clutch since he is green around the gills having an experience "nice" hen and she can show him the ropes. It is suggested that you don't put 2 new parents together but have 1 with experience therefore one knows what they are doing and teaches (hopefully) the other one. You said you have given him a lady do you have your budgies all together when they are not breeding? If so you may want to let him chose his lady and see what happens. What does he do when he is will all the budgies together? Does he pick a particular budgie to flirt with?
April 25, 200718 yr Is it possible he is just not in breeding condition? Im not sure how you tell a recessive pied is in breeding mode. Do their cere's change color like a normal or dominant pied would? Just a thought. Snip
April 25, 200718 yr I have the same problem, My Cin Grey doesn't like any girls he was paired up with he is in the club (Laughing out loud) ( aviary ) and Hopefully uses the right lines on the girls and actually bonds .. He just likes to be left alone and watch everything (Laughing out loud).. I think he is the geek type ; )
April 26, 200718 yr Hi, Dawson is a boy, but he is not in breeding condition. His cere will go a lot darker. You need to wait until then and then pair him with a female who is also in breeding condition. You will find he will be a lot more attracted to the ladies then Feathers.
