Posted April 25, 200718 yr Hi! I'm new here. My budgie laid 7 eggs and the first one hatched April 14. There are now 6 already hatched and 1 still to hatch. Need feedback from you about our newborn birds. Is it common to have 6-7 at one time? Do the babies need assistance in feeding because there's so many of them or will the parents be able to handle them? (The father bird has been constantly feeding them but I don't know if they're all getting enough). Does the nest look dirty? Do I need to clean it or there's no need? Do you think they all look healthy/well fed? Here are some pictures: http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/tru...3/bbbirds02.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/tru...3/bbbirds01.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/tru...e3/DSC03961.jpg Please reply. Thank you! Edited April 25, 200718 yr by Kaz
April 25, 200718 yr Hi! I'm new here. Hello, and welcome to our forum My budgie laid 7 eggs and the first one hatched April 14. There are now 6 already hatched and 1 still to hatch. Need feedback from you about our newborn birds. Is it common to have 6-7 at one time? it can be a normal sized clutch...varies a bit between 4 and 8 babies Do the babies need assistance in feeding because there's so many of them or will the parents be able to handle them? (The father bird has been constantly feeding them but I don't know if they're all getting enough). This is a good time to be sure parents have plenty of good food and water. Maybe a liquid calcium supplement in their water. A good time to give them soft foods like eggfood (homemade) to take the stress off the parents...the easier thier food the quicker they can feed babies Does the nest look dirty? Do I need to clean it or there's no need? You might want to add some wood shavings Do you think they all look healthy/well fed? crops show food so all looks fine Here are some pictures: http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/tru...3/bbbirds02.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/tru...3/bbbirds01.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/tru...e3/DSC03961.jpg Please reply. Thank you! Welcome to our forum. You will get heaps of help here and we love looking at baby budgie photos. You can edit your photos on photobucket as they have an edit feature. If you select the email/ website size it will be correct for this forum. Edited April 25, 200718 yr by Kaz
April 25, 200718 yr Hi There, all of your babies are looking fantastic. All the crops I saw (the sack under their head that hold their food) looked full, so the parents seem to be doing a great job feeding them. Keep checking on them, especially the littlest ones, and if you see any that don't seem to have a full enough crop, try moving them closer to the nest entrance so that they are noticed more. So far, so good though, the littlest one that I saw had been fed. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask about them. We have lots of very experienced budgie breeders here, like Kaz, who can answer all the questions you may have. Feathers. ps. loved the pics
April 28, 200718 yr Thanks for all your help and the kind welcome. I have new pictures of the baby birds I took today: I added paper bedding called "Carefresh." Is that okay? Also, what colors do you think the babies will be? I think the mother is a dilute and the father is a dominant pied. Thanks!
April 28, 200718 yr You can add these pictures plus your question about mutation in the mutation section in a different post (since it is off topic in this post)...and you will get more responses too. I love how both the parents are together in the box sweet.
