Posted December 12, 200420 yr Hey guys! okay i bought my first budgie ever last wednesday, so if my maths are correct tat means he's een with me for 4 days. I know It might still be a bit early to having him trust me with his life but he seems kin of scared whenever i walk up to him (I walk reaaaaally slowly and talking in a soft voice to him which makes my brother laugh at me <_< ) Yesterday he chirped for the first time and he did it today too for a long time, i think it had something to do whith the tv being on.... So what can I do to make me really trust me,i keep reading about people who just went up to their budgies the second day and got them to perch on their finger! (not fair!) Also to be considered, i think he might me 6 or 7 months old, could this make it harder for me to bond with him? the lady at the pet store said it wouldn't make any difference but i'm begining to doubt her.... Anyways all tips will be GRATELY appreciated!!! Muchas Gracias!
December 12, 200420 yr Ola LilDevil, It is very early yet for him to be tame around you. You sound to be doing all the right things.Yes I think being that bit older will make it a little harder to tame him but certainly not impossible by any means. You should now try to sit as close to the cage as you can(and I suggest you make yourself comfy cos you have to sit still for a while!). Open the cage door quietely and slowly move your hand in. Then just simply leave it there until he settles down. You may need to do this for a few days but once he is happy for you to do that you can move your hand a LITTLE bit nearer each time, if he flaps just keep perfectly still till he settles again. All the time talk quietely and slowly. See how you get on with this and let us know. You will need lots of patience but the rewards are worth it. Good Luck! Julie
December 12, 200420 yr Thanks a lot!! It really helps to talk to someone who's had more experience! :(Laughing out loud): also 1 more question, when i talk to him he sometimes starts to shut his eyes and looks like he's falling asleep does that mean i'm boring him??? and sometimes he umm "chirps" (is that how you say it?) is kind of like a hiccup sound... is that good?bad?
December 13, 200420 yr Sounds perfectly normal to me! And don't forget with him being that little bit older he might copying sounds he's heard already at the pet store! Julie
