Posted April 20, 200718 yr For the past week one or both of the boys have been doing runny poos. There's been no weight loss, no loss of appetite, they play, etc but there have been some runny poos in the cage. When i get them both out and they're on the play gym i can watch them for hours and they'll do 100% normal poos. When they're in their cage i can watch and watch and watch - nothing but normal poos. I leave them alone for 10 mins, runny poos. As it's gone on for so long i've decided, much to dads disgust, that they should both go in for a check up. So they're booked in to the vets tomorrow afternoon. Not with the vet i would like though, hmph. I swear that the avian vet, Sandy Hume, is psychic and is on holiday whenever my birds get sick! But they're still going to see another of the vets at the practice, cause Sandy's away for 3 weeks and i don't think i'm happy to wait that long, (Laughing out loud). Watching them now i can see that it's Ozzie that's doing the runnies, he's just done two that i've seen are definitely his. But still, best to get them both checked. Ozzie really doesn't seem to be a very healthy bird. This is the 3rd time he's got sick in a little over a year that i've had him.
April 20, 200718 yr Not good Bea Fingers crossed that they are both okay, or the vet has a good remedy for whatever is ailing him . Feathers.
April 20, 200718 yr How very disheartening for you Bea. Hope all goes well at the vets. Was Ozzie on a 6 week course of the meds before ?
April 20, 200718 yr Author Yeah, they were all on the 6 week course of meds. I don't think it's the same thing, and like i said they're definitely not acting sick. I'm guessing it's a little gut bug or something. I wormed them a couple of days ago and all yesterday there was no runny poos, i thought i'd fixed it! But it's back again today, so we'll just wait and see i guess.
April 20, 200718 yr Probably just a tummy bug. The vet will put your mind at rest anyway. All the best Kaz
April 20, 200718 yr Oz must be harboring something or he has a very low immune system? You feed them so well so think positive that if he didn't have you as a mum he would be in worse shape all those vitamins etc...keep him bouncing back to health. ((hugs))
April 21, 200718 yr Author I'm feeling that it's most likely that he's got a low immune system. Still, i don't know where he'd be getting exposed to bugs. Bailee's also doing runny poos so i'll see about getting treatment for them too. They only just came off the meds for psittacosis, it's a pain if i have to medicate them all again!
April 21, 200718 yr Bea, most people I know in show budgies use a course of probiotics after they have been on doxy type meds. It helps get the gut back in order. Did you ? It may be something as simple as that.
April 21, 200718 yr Author Bea, most people I know in show budgies use a course of probiotics after they have been on doxy type meds. It helps get the gut back in order. Did you ? It may be something as simple as that. No i didn't....and they've been off meds for a week - the runny poos have been happening a week... Where do you get them? The vet never mentioned a thing about them when we were there to pick up the meds. I will ask the vet i see today if they know anything about using them and if that could be the problem.
April 21, 200718 yr Author Got probiotics to put them on for a week or so. She says they're looking very healthy and that if the probiotics don't help then i should bring them back for tests but she really didn't think they looked to bad! I've gotta keep them in separate cages for a few days so that i can see who's doing what poos. Blinkie will have 100% privacy to hump his perches in. :(Laughing out loud): Oz can have the blue cage and sit next to my desk. Tiels will get probiotics too, so hopefully everyone will be well soon. Blinkie was a little ratbag in the whole vet process! Put up a 10 min long fight not wanting to be caught and put in the little travel cage!! He's grown wise to my mirror trick and i ended up cornering him in the big cage. When the vet wanted to get Ozzie out (cause i said he was the one doing the runny poos) Blinkie kept jumping on her hand, (Laughing out loud)!!! He just didn't want to get off. She said it was a pleasure to see such tame and friendly budgies, (Laughing out loud). I think Blinkie won her over with his sexy charm.
April 21, 200718 yr He could be harboring something from the pet store he was in? Anyways I am glad everyone is on the road to recovery . Sounded like an adventure.
